Hi mudders,
This is such a n00b question - I have no real restoration experience - so your advice is once again very much appreciated. I hope that in a few years I'll look back at this question and laugh at myself
but it's part of my learning journey
I'm wanting to restore some of my interior parts - seat rails, gear lever, transfer boot trim, some brackets, etc. I'm thinking a good powder coat will be worthwhile and probably a more durable finish than I'd get with a rattle can.
The two items I am a bit stuck with are the seat rail+lever and the transfer boot metal trim. (See pics below).
1. The adjustment lever is attached to the rail with a compression-fit pin. Would I be correct in assuming that I'd have to separate these to prep for powder coat? And if I do remove this pin, are replacement pins available? Will the use of a bolt and nut have any downside?
2. The transfer boot trim has another metal ring which is clamped to the top ring with those compression rivets, and this holds the boot cover. I can easily replace these with blind eye rivets when I reassemble, but is it worthwhile me going to the effort of replacing them with compression rivets? (sure the blind-eyes will be just fine but I want to keep the stock detail as far as possible)
