Unplanned/unscheduled clearance modifications… passenger side step is now useless, will need to be removed. Drivers is crushed/bent but can still hold my weight. Will need some time to decide if sliders are the next modification on the list. I had been thinking about a rear bumper and wheel mount to help with departure angle issues.

If you're worried about departure angle and scraping your rear you're definitely going to keep smashing up those steps and potentially making your situation worse

Out of every Toyota model out there sliders are most valuable on a 200. Mine have paid for themselves over and over again taking hits like yours.

If I were you I would invest in them before any other modification. You can drag that spare tire all you want. But you can’t keep dragging your rockers.

Bummed, but somehow my Dissent rear bumper made contact with my lower tailgate (I think on Top of the World in Moab).

Sorry to hear! Would certainly be interested in more details and photos of the bumper and the hit. We have seen something similar one other time but never could figure out exactly why or how as the bumper itself was still straight and the swing arms seamed well aligned still.
Please email to sales@dissentoffroad.com if you don’t mind.
Thanks!

Sliders would have likely saved both of your passenger doors. They should be the very first modification on any vehicle that is wheeled.

Careful with your 7pin tow connection. That sucker is almost $200. Easy to temporarily remove if needed.

Will do, once I get better service.

That is a bummer! Very surprised the bumper was able to flex into the tailgate. Any sign of movement on the wing attachment bolts?
I don't think the bumper itself flexed, the aluminum doesn't bounce back like steel, so that much deflection would be visible afterwards. I suspect body/frame movement.

That's just so bizarre. From the photos, it looks impossible without something first getting wedged between the two.

Were you running a RTT or anything else heavy up high?

Is this what made contact?

How is your alignment on the latch and bump stop? Those are what set the distance from the swing arm to the hatch.
Nope, this piece.

Also, the wing is bent up, but not a lot. The plastic bumper remainder piece was knocked out of place and the plastic pin fastener was sheared.

Moab was not gentle to the 200.

We had to loosen and then winch my tjm front out off the fenders from repeatedly landing on the nose on fins and things. And dinged it back in a bit again on poison spider.

The winch dookicky was unfortunately a feeler guage for approach angle on steep climb entries.

Somehow managed to ding the kdss arm repeatedly.

After the bumper under cover was mangled by the kdss arm, I removed them from both sides.

Tight as specced.

Stuff happens when you wheel those kinds of trails. Rock vs. aluminum and steel...bet on the rock every time no matter how well the metal is done. All the precautions equipment-wise mitigate, not eliminate damage.
