Hey guys, looking to line-x my hood in the near future. I would like to see what has been done already and the different configurations. Also thinking about a vinyl black out kit, or just rattle caning it myself. Anyway, I would just like to see some pictures! Thanks, Jon

With "Line-X" are you talking about the bedliner stuff as the blackout pattern? If so keep in mind that that stuff looks great then it gets dirty the first time and is damn near impossible to get it back to the original clean again.

FWIW mine is rattle can semi-gloss black on a gloss black rig. I have a 1/4" wide generic gloss black pinstripe around the perimiter to cover up my horrible tape job from spraying. I can get some pics tomorrow when the sun is up.

yes that is what im talking about. I havent thought about the cleaning aspect of it, but have had a few people with experience using it say that they like it. I am still leaning towards a rattle can job, I just want to explore all options before i commit.

I taped with a 1/4" 3m vinyl tape to make the curves and a fine line. Taped and papered the rest, sanded with 400 then shot it hanging up vertically with black base/flat clear. Here's the result.

There is some vendor that makes a hood blackout vinyl sticker that's pretty cool

This would be simpler than repainting the hood and the fender

We make vinyl stickers the rolls are 3ft wide, as that is as tall or wide it could be all we need is your measurements.

I am contemplating this (paint or sticker) since my paint is quite good except on the hood. Thanks.

I concur with Green73; I had a LineX liner on my Tundra (in the bed and over the rails) and although quite tough, it was very difficult to get clean.

As i only have dealt with 40's, i see this must be an issue for the 80 series... Is it hood glare or vanity?? If it is to cut down glare i can produce thousands of these out of vinyl to suit your specs, color, design, even shape, without the painstaking course of hood removal and painting or line-x .... easy to wash with zero maintainence. Whats your taste ?? Black diamond plate ? no problem Mountain scene ? no problem Picture of your favorite "whatever" ? no problem .....this offers an extremely vast canvas to show the world what you're into....superfast free shipping..PM me if interested.

"Toast" I think it's more of appearance thing. Cheap to do, and doesn't look bad. But it may actually be functional too.

Anyway here's my pic:

Glare can be an issue with an 80. I'm sure color plays a part in it too. My Dark Green truck suffers if your driving into the sun. I plan to order Craworado's kit this year.

Except for that OU crap, that is a truly fine looking Cruiser. The first one in years that really made me stop and appreciate it. Good job.

Did it to my white 60. During the Fall, driving home from work, the sun would hit the hood just right and bounce right into my eyes til I finally hit PCH. As soon as I did the blackout I was good to go.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I am still thinking about what I want to do. here is a picture of my hood so you understand why I want to do this.

I would do the whole hood given its current condition. If it was just for glare reduction and the hood was in otherwise good shape I'd do just the center.
