disagree again
If your just getting one locker first thing you want to stop is open wheeler action yay?,nay?
so in the front it go's and yes toy rear lsds are sheet but a sheet lsd is better than a open diff IMO
If a locker in the front affects your steering as bad as people say these people must have girly armsi find my front locker pulls me through tracks alot easier than a rear locker pushing and also find with a front locker when i want to turn through and over other peoples tracks it turns
with the rear air locker in the back of my old fj75 i used it more doing circle work than wheelin itself ,when i did testing locked and unlocked i found i was getting more places with it unlocked untill and only untill one rear wheel was of the ground then yes a locker but for the 99% of both back wheels on the ground the open was fine
Thinking this way ..from what ive experienced b4 lokkas and see all the time to those with single spinners in the front
driving through sandy tracks, gets bogie, loose momentum, then stop, try to take off, oh what do you know single spiner in front, one wheel digs in twists chassis there for puts the oppisite rear wheel up then sheety lsd cracks open cos one wheels of the ground and bogged ...OR
Front locker keeps both front wheels digging through boggieness even even chassis level(side to side) then rear diff stays flat or level as such and lsd has a better chance at keeping 2 wheels spinning
But Dont forget this is for MY type of 4x4ing /wheelin terrain which is mainly sand ,white beach sand and dune's, pine forrest black sand and hills
So i guess it comes down to each to their own terrains
kind of like leafs and coils ay crushers![]()
suspiciosly patrol diff under the front?![]()
As for feathering the HB a few times be for i had lockers in my cruisers i found tapping the brake would give the same effect as you say with the HB throw power to the other wheelDepends on what you drive in my opinion. I have an HZJ79 with aluminum flat deck, if there is no weight in the back then a locker is pretty much useless - can get the same effect by feathering the handbrake. So, front locker is better in that situation.
That being said I'll leave the rear locker on in tough spots and only use the front for short periods of time in really rough spots as when you run aggressive tires the front locker just takes you where it wants to go.
Bottom line is use what you have.
Fun though!
Using a winch takes ages , on the weekend 4x4 with a mate with fzj79 and no front locker through 4 different sand dune tracks were we were just leisurely cruising through ,near the top slowly my ute crawled pulled to the top and over ,just before the top in his ride front went open bogged one wheel down and his 79 come to a stop and back down the bottom for a retry ,sure if you had a winch could have pulled him self up but that would take ages, why do things the long/hard way front locker all the way, disagree, a rear locker is better for light weight vehicles. you need as much traction as you can in that situation.
a front locker is nice but it also leads to more broken parts so i prefer a winch instead of a front locker... unless of course the truck comes with one. then i will use it sparingly.
Hi All
New to all this so this may be a repeat of a post yesterday.
Just thought I would share my new addition with you as I know there is a lot of interest in the Aussie 78 series in the US. I purchased it as you see it in the photos and I have not had a chance to get it dirty yet. The back is complete with 40litre Engel fridge, 2 burner gas stove, kitchen sink and various cupboards. Sleeps 2 people in the pop up roof. Underneath is a 70 litre water tank along with 180 litres of diesel.
The 1HZ motor is turbo charged and intercooled.
