Soenke, what are those switches at the bottom of the center console in the back for? I've always wondered because my 71 has some plugs under the center console and I don't know what they are for, but I assume it has soemthing to do with those switches.

That is a very nice 70, too bad you had to get rid of it.

The three position switch controls the rear heater fan (high/off/low) and the slide valve controls the temperature. BJ7* series rear heaters are *very* effective and canned food placed behind them and covered with a jacket will warm up to comfortable serving temperature. Its really nice to be able to eat a can of soup/ chili/ stew on a frigid trail run rather than just a cold sandwich.

Hello,

Those fancy mirrors actually look good on duct tape. One of mine broke, dangled until I went home to tape it.

The tape held it in place until I got a replacement. Another application for duct tape... What a useful thing.

The mirror mount is not sealed and allows dirt and water to seep in. I sealed mine with grease.

this is my KZJ71, stock springs have been taken out and replaced with stock 80series springs.... a very cheap lift kit with definite increase in ride height...

Hello Wayne,

You were to convert an ex mine truck into a plow truck, much like you did like this Troopie. The thread was lost when the server went down. What happened to that project?

JuanJ

does that troopy have front hubs off hilux

i will be running a thread on the ex-mine truck when i get back from delivering this unit
https://forum.ih8mud.com/diesel-tech-24-volts-systems/245813-1hz-install-into-1978-fj40.html
to San Fran next week.
it will on this thread here:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/70-series-tech/302973-2004-hzj79-plow-truck-refurbishing.html

the troopie was a temporary substitute for the ex-mine rig. in the spring the plow attachments will be moved over to the HZJ79 and the troopie will go back up for sale.

cheers (good memory)

the troopie is a Kenya spec truck, no heater, no power steering, vent windowed doors, metal fan shroud and manual asian hubs. cool bone stock, as basic as they come, troopie.

no air con isnt a suprise but no power steer is a little rare ay? will you convert it or keep it old school

Hello Wayne,

I was about to write on the HZJ40 you built when I read this thread.

Congratulations on a job very well done on the HZJ40. Saying or writing anything else would be superfluous.

Good luck in California. If you can register a vehicle there, you can register it anywhere.

Regarding the Troopie, I was asking myself whether it was as basic as it looked. Thank you for confirming my first impression.
