Hello all. Looking to buy myself a 200 series and found one here locally (semi at least, 3hrs away) 2011 with 107k.

Asked for some photos of underside but only got a couple. Wondered if it’s worth pursuing based on your guy’s opinions. 1 owner. NY owned. Carfax clean. Only things on there were about every 5k miles it seemed to be in for a full check and fix of general wear items.

IMO they were slim on the undercarriage pics because it’s a train wreck. While the exhaust looks ok, I suspect it was replaced. That rear shock guard is stage 4 cancer.. and it’s unlikely to be the only thing infected.

Being in N Michigan corrosion is a fact of life, so I’m not saying to hold out for a totally clean one, but you need more pictures of this one’s condition to make an educated decision.

thank you for your insight. I'll see if I can get any more. Agree that that the shock looks like garbage. I suppose i'm hopeful, as the price is right for the mileage here and being local. Trying to stretch for the 200 series, don't want age of the 100 or older as wife won't go for that.

Take a closer look but it does not look too bad in the limited photos. Those shock’s definitely need to be replaced.

i would never ask a southerner or someone from the west coast their opinion on rust if you don’t live in the south or the west. Their answer is always the same.

The handful of new fasteners makes me wonder if old rusted ones have had to be replaced.

This may hold true. For me, that's a solid NOPE. Move on. Fly and drive IMO.

Hmmmm……..I’d want more photos. Looking beyond the shock literally and figuratively is disconcerting. Shocks don’t get like that without a lot of corrosion elsewhere. Exhaust is new and was likely shot. See if they will put it on a lift for photos instead of just sticking a phone under the edges.

Living in Wisconsin I've spent some time under my LC removing corrosion from the previous owner. The area most affected in my experience is above / behind the spare tire. Have the seller drop the spare and send pictures of those areas. That has typically been my litmus test relative to rust. KDSS valve too. If either area is too far gone, run away and locate one that has lived its life away from the rust belt.

thank you all! I'll see if I get any more photo's but won't be making the 3 hr trek to check it out based on all of your feedback.

Where is it? There are a scattering of 200 owners in Michigan who might be able to take a look.

Not only does it look bad (it takes a lot of rust to require a replacement muffler, etc.), but the spare is mounted upside down...

Good decision to pass on this one.

HTH

Isn't our exhaust STAINLESS STEEL?? I don't think that i have ever seen a bad looking LC exhuast even as the other parts rusted out.....
