Chances are, your tie rod was already slightly bent and it was only a matter of time. A DOM one takes the beating better without folding under the same stresses that would bend the stock one.

It very well may have been bent previously. I've wheeled this rig at least a half dozen times. I look at like "chicken or the egg"... Was it the tie rod bending that broke the mounts, or vice versa???
If the tie rod was bent just to the point of failure, it would be like when you stand on an aluminum can and flick the side of it and it immediately collapes.
This could have stressed the weak mounts into submission...
