Very reluctant to let this one go. Lots of love and new OEM parts later. I've enjoyed it and time to make room for another truck. So this gem is getting released back into the wild. It's been kept as original as possible:
An exceptionally rare Land Cruiser spec with cool provenance:
This 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser HDJ81 is not your average 80 Series. Powered by the legendary 1HD-FT 4.2L turbo diesel inline-six and paired with the coveted factory 5-speed manual transmission, this JDM-market example delivers unmatched mechanical integrity and long-haul capability. With just 61,000 original miles, it stands as one of the finest examples of its kind available today.
Originally special-ordered through Tokyo Toyota, purchased and owned by NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone) — one of Japan’s most historic and influential corporations — this HDJ81 served in their private fleet from new. Spec’d for practical, durable use, it was delivered in the rare narrow-body configuration with rear barn doors, ideal for utility and off-road accessibility.
Finished in its original Toyota Silver (Paint Code 181) over a factory cloth interior, this Land Cruiser remains in highly original condition throughout. It still retains:
Whether you’re a collector, an overland enthusiast, or simply someone who knows what the 1HD-FT is worth in a manual, barn-door package — this Land Cruiser is a unicorn. Its rarity, low mileage, and corporate fleet history make it stand out in a sea of tired, over-accessorized examples.
Flaws include various screw holes where equipment was originally mounted on the truck. on the roof and interior, by NTT. Some faint patina present in clearcoat on hood, top of rear barn doors.
Priced: Sale Pending
