I recently broke a short side poly rear . I also twisted the splines on the long side so bad I couldn't get the c-clip out . After wedging a couple of punches in my detroit and beating on it for a while I finally got it out . I called them up and asked what were the chances of getting some sort of warranty out of these axles . I'm running 36" tires w/ a 2f sm420 ,4.88 combo . I spoke with Garrett in customer service and he said to send em' back for a look . I sent them off and waited for the confirmation of their arrival . When I got it I called Garrett and asked what they thought . He said that Dave was the guy who took care of warranty stuff and hadn't had a chance to look at them . A couple of days later I e-mailed back to see if anything had progressed . I just got the e-mail back saying that they were going to replace them under warranty . Just wanted to say that these guys stand behind their products and would recommend these to anyone who's blowing stockers on a regular basis . Big Kudos to Poly . Can't wait to get back to wheelin' .

sweet to know I run em on 4d's with 180 to 1 no brakes yet .. but my 250k 2F is tired:hillbilly:

I don't know if it was a manufacturers defect or not but I used to snap stock ones every weekend before I got them . They've held up quite well for me .

You have to see Too Tall wheel! It is an experience. There is NO repeat NO let up; he hammers that truck.

Glad to hear they are taking care of you.

However, it seems to me that if you are twisting off stock 30-spline stuff every weekend, and are now wrecking chromo stuff, that it is long past time to upgrade your rear axle.

:meh:

I'm planning on a buggy the timing isn't quite right just yet . Hoping for this fall . The chromos hold up really well compared to stock stuff though.

Sounds like good company.

The end result always is bigger stronger is better, really sucks breaking in the bush.

Diamond nines with nodulars seems to be pretty reasonable, but factor in everything else and it get pricey no matter which way you look at it.

When I was at Katemcy, I watched a retired comp buggy for a 20K with aluminum links rock out. Seems used built buggys are the way to go.

Unless you really enjoys building it and personalizing the rig.

glad to hear that you got a great customer service and warranty .. mine are relative new .. and there are not take any big abuse yet .. ( in plans :) )

I hope mines never broke .. coz the shipping to PP will cost another set of polys... :hillbilly:

has everyone w/poly rears broke stock axles?
would you guys mind posting up your motor and tire size?

or would a separate thread be better?

I'm already running a superset in the front, poly rears are prob. next on the list...
thanks,
manny

I think alot of guys run them just for insurance , not really because they are breaking stock ones but as Poser said if you are breaking stockers all the time then you should probably upgrade the axle itself . Although I know alot of people that used to break birfs twice a day until they got Longs. I've broken them too w/36's so I guess it depends on your driving style in the end .

are you still on leafs in the back? i think when you start pushing the limits of your rig on steep stuff w/leafs all that rock bouncing is hell on your rear driveline

I concur with the spring comment. I've broken 2 Poly long side rears and am hopeful that going 4-link will help a little. I know that an axle upgrade is needed - just can't afford it right now (and have had back issues that preclude me from building something up myself right now).

Have everything I need to do the 4-link (including money in savings to order the coilovers when it's built) just need the time...

Kool on the warranty. Just wish there was a way to strengthen the skinny little 30 spline end of the shaft, and then beef up the shaft more versus the torsion concept.

I am on leaf springs but my rig doesn't bounce that much (unless I only have 1 psi in the tires) then I get a bit of load up . I don't know if a coil spring setup would have helped much in the situation I was in or not . I have a guy who's interested in my rig so I'll probably sell it at the end of the summer .I don't think I'll link it before then .

I do .. twice ..

thought the first was the stock one with a loooooong and hard life on it .. and the second was due to my fail ( brute force .. )

I'm just new on the PP .. less than a year with 'em .. and I was thinking in a new axle .. 14B sure, but it will be a issue with the 8 bolt pathern and big and heavy axle ..

Not to mention the loose on clearance due to bigger 3rd member ..

35spline 12 bolt spool..

or new axle

35 spline 12 bolt spool. Are you saying this is something that can be modded into a stock Cruiser axle/diff? If so - what are the details? Sorry - just don't get it?

you'd have to have custom axle shafts made and some custom side bearings i think....Sputnik40 are you running 42's?

question to people who break rear axle shafts all the time.....are your diffs welded up? also what gear ratio are yall running and what kind of backlash # did you set the rear-end up with?

What does gears or welded diff have anything to do with axle shaft failure?
