Is there any updates for sourcing these clips. I am pretty sure I have the same model clip that @Lumpskie shows but my bag also says Made in China on it. I just busted another one of these, which makes 4 from the bag of 10 that I started with. It seems to fit just fine but the part that clips on the rod keeps spreading apart and then the door handle doesn't work, which sucks when the truck is empty but infuriating when the truck is stuffed with camping equipment.:bang:

Has anyone found any other options that are a little stronger and if so, do you have a link?

Also, what are people shaving off on these? The part that clips to the rod seems to be the trouble spot. Do I need to ream that out a hair?

I've gone through 4 out of 10 of these so far as well from the Amazon link shared throughout the site. I keep shaving a little off to see if I can get it snug in the hole, to no avail. Anyone have any other solutions? I called CDAN in ABQ and they said the part is discontinued. The chinese substitute plastic ones from Amazon are not making me too happy.

Put it in warm water, right before you use it

Did you end up getting your repaired? If so,do you have a PN by chance?
Did you even read this thread?

May want to try 6975914050. I'm not positive, but it looks like that may be it.

I did, and about 10 other threads specific to the tailgate rod clip problem, not one has a PN that is relevant. Toyota says you have to buy the entire linkage to get the exact clip which is quite expensive.

Thanks for this PN, I'll see if my local Toyota can get it in for comparison, assumed other Toyotas would have the same clip in some capacity.

Here's another thread that may be helpful, if you haven't found it already.

DO a Google image search for that P/N and see if it is pointing the right direction for what you need.

Please post back if that is or is not it, in order to help others like you.

Without being able to compare sizing it's the wrong color, the one on the LC is yellow and the Camry PN is pink. What was your source for that PN?

Sorry about sounding like a dick, I found your other thread and all that you've gone through.

I pulled it from Partsouq (I posted a pic) but I'm not if I selected the piece you need. When I Google image it, it may be reversed from yours, not sure.

I pasted it into McGeorge and it shows as an active P/N from 1991 through 2006.

Eventually a buddy and I finally figured out how to fit the yellow clip in properly (the bag of 10 on Amazon someone linked to earlier in this thread) and it has worked like a charm for about a year now for me.

Plastics manipulation or more of a procedural change in installation (if you can remember)? Didn't seem like the Amazon clips were tall enough to get on the rod in
I used the Amazon part in December 2018 and mine is still working as well.
What kind of mods did you do to the part (if any)? Having troubles sliding the clip on the rod.

I posted on page 1... here's the post:

No mods or trimming the plastic piece was needed afterall. It was just a matter of looking at it over and over and finally there was an A-Ha moment where we found the exact way it fit in there. I can't remember exactly what is as we did but once it is done, you'll probably say to yourself, Duh! That was it!!! Good luck!

I found someone's else's directions (start by inserting the clip into the hole first and then snap on the rod. The height of the clip isn't quite right (needs to be about 0.5mm taller) so it's a bit of a pain in the arse. Hoping the OEMs I ordered will work. Thanks for the response.

No dice. The part numbers mentioned in earlier thread are too small. Wondering if the 97s had a different clip than the others as the Pesky Heater Valve ain't got nothing on this. Looking like I'll need to take in to Toyota for complete replacement. That area is exremely tight to work in which adds to the issues. No bueno.

A couple seconds with a knife or razor blade will solve your issue and yield a reliable product. Trim before attach... till it looks like the picture that I posted.

The retainer clip portion was too small, it keeps pulling out of the hole. When I look at the original clip compared to Amazon and the OE part recommendations the original is much larger so it fits the retainer clip hole perfectly. The rod side of the clip was way too small so took a drill bit and blade and had to hollow it out. Almost seems like I have a whole different set up than most of you all...weird.
