I used to live in SD and wheel the SoCal deserts but need a current update. I am planning a trip from PHX to Anza Borrego - Joshua Tree - Death Valley. I would apprecite the following tips:

Best way (wheeling) from Ocotillio Wells to Palm Springs.

Secenic and semi-challenging wheeling thru Joshua Tree starting in Palm Springs and ending in Furance Creek (DV).

Day trips in Death Valley. I'm staying at Furnace Creek.

I'm driving an FJ Cruiser well armored and scratched, sitting on 35's, stock gears, locked rear w/ A-Trac hack, winch (which I prefer not to use).

Any input is apprecited, this is my local club thread - https://forum.ih8mud.com/az-copper-state-cruisers/331282-trippin-dv-jt.html

Thanks -

Carl

Try posting in the So-Cal 80's section. There's a bit more activity and I think you would get some answers to your questions.
Have fun on your trip.

I have some PDF maps up on my site that could help you out in your planning.

Borrego Scanned Map: http://www.markkuz.com/maps/Anza-Borrego_Map-2.pdf This is a scan of the Wilderness Trail map that is the best one I have seen of Borrego.

There are some very scenic trails in D.V. and a couple real close to you are Echo Canyon & Hole in the Wall trail. I haven't done Echo but here are some photos of Hole In The Wall, the trail starts off on river rocks and then becomes ledge stone. Very Beautiful.

You also have to stop by and see Zebriskie Point, no wheeling but a spectacular view.
