well this is very last minute but everything I was originally trying to work out fell through. Seven Springs campground is booked through the end of the year so that is out. The weather is going back up this week and it will remain hot in the valley so I am planning a trip up to Strawberry on October 17th.

The weather will be cooler, might see some leaves changing color and anyone wanting to camp there will be nice spots up on the Rim. I got the road info from one of our BSA leaders that claimed the route was too rough for his Expedition. This weekend I was able to run the route, very pretty and has a few spots where it is a little challenging if you pick the wrong line. Mostly stocker friendly, I could mike this run in my 100, and the location makes it easy for Flagstaff, Payson, Prescott and Phoenix members to attend.

We will meet up at Baja gas station on the Beeline highway, 8AM and departing by 830.

Again, sorry for the last minute planning.

Steve

Im in, might leave Saturday PM

Plenty of vehicle to go on many trails besides lots of experience in this group to help spot if needed

no worries! If Saddletramp would take his stock 100, your 200 will do great. FYI I hear some tight brush at times on this trail.

The trail has a few steep sections and some good ruts. The manzanita is a bit tight in some places but some strategic threading will get most 80 sized and under through with no pinstriping. Maybe a few strategically placed pruners would guarantee the squeeze.

Watching the weather it looks like some possible thunderstorms Fiday and Sunday. I am still planning on camping Saturday night.

The entry is between Pine and Strawberry and the elevation is guaranteed cool at night

What time do you figure we'll be back in PHX on Sunday? Have a family friend coming for dinner that afternoon/evening, but trying to work it out. Sounds like a great run and pines on the Rim will keep the weather enjoyable.

Thanks for hosting this ROTM!

Some great stone work along the way

Lot of camping opportunities with great views at the top ~7000'. Trail is about 6 miles long depending on how you exit. Exit is on Hwy87 about 8 miles north of Strawberry.

When you say steep and ruts is this something that a non locked vehicle could run or would I be better off with a vehicle with TRAC? Also if camping on the rim do you have a way to the top without using 87 or 260? If I camp would depend on how much I get done Friday. I'm taking my project I'm calling budget build up north and need to make space for it in the garage.

I ran it unlocked with no wheel slippage. You will know within the first 1000' yards if you are in the right vehicle. Wet will be a game changer.

Missed this part. So the trail pretty much climbs up the rim and ends not to far from where 260 out of Camp Verde ends at 87? Isn't this close to where you posted pictures of a tour bus taking out a few pine trees?
