It's so easy, fun, to point out others transgressions, but sometimes it's good to be careful of backfires. You are 100% correct that it is on TRAL to be sure of where they are and be sure that the route is correct and legal, same responsibility as any other user.

I'm sure that the organizers of this event reviewed the maps and other sources, to be sure of legality, correct? The route run was FR393, correct, so, every vehicle that ran that event, broke federal law, by driving a motorized vehicle across a wilderness area, whoops! It is right on the maps, plain as day, how could you miss it,,, right?

Some other examples: You like; Cherry Creek, upper end of Workman Creek, Aztec peak, etc, same deal. For those who say Forest just wants to close everything, you ran it because Forest is breaking the law by not enforcing it. This is at the knee kicking of TRAL among others. Travel management will bring an end to that little party.

We made a solid case for the routes, Forest agrees that closing them makes no sense, but other than giving us their support, there is nothing they can do about it. Lot of meetings have happened, tons of time expended, has resulted in a little bill forming and starting it's crawl through the perilous minefield known as congress. With a ton of luck and work, this will solve the problem, brought to you by TRAL and allies.

Now, back to your nit picking, finger pointing drama show.

My understanding; this route was closed for resource protection, some of the stone coverts under the road collapsed, so less traffic = less stress on the historic structures. So, no "special interest groups" involved, feel free to read whatever you want into that.

I'm sure that you know this area better then I do. My interest has been further north around the peaks. John made it sound like the head ranger closed it and it's a dead issue. Seems it's taking a lot to drag the whole story out. My take is if in fact some damage has occurred won't it make sense to see if repairs could be made rather than stopping the vehicle use completely to slow the damage and let erosion work on them which will in the end will destroy these historic structures? To me it sounds like the local four wheel drive community is interested in getting this open and willing to put some effort to make it happen. It's the FS that's the stumbling block here.

Thank you Kevin, thank you John for your concern and notifying the CSC community of the closure of 608. I am hoping that in the future you continue to provide updates and information to CSC members.
