Just checked and the Pismo Jam is 9/28-30 for planning purposes.

Weekend of October 13 and 14th it is....

There, someone had to throw out a date!!

There are other considerations though besides weather. For many of us, the ability to attend this event and the Pismo Jamboree is based on the two being spaced far enough apart. While I'd love to spend weekend after weekend in Pismo my schedule just doesn't allow it. Maybe that's a unique situation applying more to me. I'd love to hear from more of you.

Given that the Pismo Jamboree is in late September, and one probably needs to space these out by at least a month (preferably 6 weeks), does it really matter if its late October or early November? Sure the weather could be bad but that's wheeling/camping. Isn't the unpredictability all part of the adventure?

Otherwise, to put this event too close to the Pismo Jam could mean this event risks losing attendance to the more established Pismo Jamboree (which will probably have better weather).

I say stick to the original dates and continue planning. Just the fact that we waffle on the dates means some folks won't get vacation requests in time to attend at all.

good point about not waffling too much. And of course, the OP already has proposed a date. The bit of conversation about the dates we're having is to try and make the event as good as can be, while appreciating the OP's initiative, without which we would not have the idea floating now.
Personally, I don't see that having SnT and the Jamboree fairly close is a big issue since the folks who come from far away will probably only come to one anyway and those who are close can do both more easily if they want, dates proximity notwithstanding, well unless it's a big no-no for work, that is. And the crowds seem fairly distinct too. Heck, there may even be folks who'd love having them be a week apart to stay and do both -or even have them be combined.
I'd favor better SnT weather over event dates separation, myself, since work and family may only allow me one event anyway and I'd rather go to SnT over the jamboree that I don't know anything about.
I say we let the OP decide on the date, that seems fair (if a truly awesome and scary responsibility :D).

just do it...............Nike

o.K. Enough BS,
What is the dam date ?

start a new thread with a definite date that we all head for the beach.

my 2 cents, keep it Nov 1-4 (updated to match others & hopefully everyone can get there.)

for 10 years people planned for the first weekend in Nov, why screw with it, some people have to make plans way out.

This is why Jims way worked.

x2!!!!
BTW Calstyl2 i have the old swing down bumper off your old 80!!! it had a s***load of pismo sand still in it when i bought it off Nial

Having been to every "official" SNT, a few things come to mind:

1) out of all the events, including the very first um-official event, the weather has been rough 4 times

2) out of respect to pismo Jim and his amazing wife Katherine, maybe "we" outta get his input and blessing. I doubt he'll care much but as a sign of respect ......

3) none of "us" know the weather at piano better than the locals, so it might be a good idea to get input from Jim, ranger Dave, Jason, Seth and so on.

4) I'll be there. No matter what the date is, no matter what the weather is like. Been going to pismo for 20 years. Not stopping now.

5) my vote is for "turf-n-surf" if Jim's cool with it.

Let's make it the 2nd weekend in November. I'd like to take advantage of the extra day off...

Just saying. I put my vacation in a year in advance for this event. First weekend in Nov. Sure we have had some bad weather in the past but like the locals say give it an hour and it will change. Like all the events we are lucky to attend its not about the name, T shirt, or even the trails its about the People ! Getting together sharing stories, swapping tech info, beating on our rigs ( well some of us :grinpimp: ) For us its more like a Family Renuion than anything else.

Hi Georg,

Here is a link: Ultimate Surf N Turf 2011
I have been keeping to what Jim said, and starting anew. Afterall, that is what he wanted. Here is the excerpt from his personal page:

"LIFE AFTER SURF N TURF

The atmosphere and culture of Surf N Turf grew from the personal efforts of a few people but that's not enough to make a great event. It is the participants, the Mob, each and everyone of you that shows up each year that gives the event it's unique character.

I'm often asked if someone will take over the event. The simple answer is no. However, don't be surprised if the tradition continues without an official event or if someone organizes a similar event. It just won't be called "Surf N Turf" we're saving that for future reunion events!

Surf N Turf has shown the strength of the Land Cruiser community and the endless possibilities available to all of us. I encourage you or your club to start your own event; call your friends together and share your local trails, it's easy and fun!

Sincerely, Pismo Jim"

With this, I took the initiative to put something together. Same great place, same great Cruiser Heads- Just a new schedule, some new events, and a fresh name. I thank you for your support, and am glad you will show up no matter what!

righton! like i said, i'll be there. most likely with an 80, maybe the buggy. :steer:

you guys need to get some action shots of that blue monster. ;p
