I'll have to third the earlier date.
I hope this idea sticks as Nov. The weather is So sketchy.
Not that I wouldn't go, but I'd just prefer nicer weather.

not to say that the previous SnTs weren't great. They were. But yes, some had lousy weather. It's so lovely out there in the summer. But then of course the dang birds are out, and the tards with toyhaulers and kegs too, so those are 2 cons for a summer date indeed. Maybe in between? Sept? Oct? When are they done with partial closure due to the birds?

California State Parks of San Luis Obispo Coast

March 1st- September 30th are the dates for the breeding season and sections of the park are closed off. I do agree with E9999, the earlier parts of the year do see high traffic from the Toyhauler/Sandrail crowds. During those times, it wouldn't feel so exclusive to the Landcruisers as later in the year. Also on the other hand I agree that some previous years events had some lousy weather. However, some had great weather mixed with bad- and others had good weather all weekend.

Final dates?

Would this dates Nov 9-11 is final? I just need to confirm coz i'm making reservation towards the end of July for an RV.thanks in advance for putting this together i'm willing to help in any way i could.I would be there Thursday for sure just to get a good spot.are we keeping the same spot? (pole #6):D

The weather is frequently crappy in november, it would be better to move it up when it was a bit warmer.

Whatever you do, don't do it the first weekend of Sept.. (Fj 45 run)

I'll remember to say hbd ;-)

My niece, nephew, and sister are the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th of Sept.. (respectively) Cheers!

My birfday weekend!:D

October

not in September. the pismo jamboree is then. lets do October some time.

October would be nice also, lets come up with a date guys i'm still flexible at this time.I also would like to attend the Pismo Jamboree sounds like fun.

the pismo jamboree is the 28th of sept. Never done that but doesn't that sound a lot like SnT and this proposed gathering, cruisers aside?

not to try and derail the OP dates, but thinking aloud, the bird closure does take a big bite out of front ocean camping where we were for SnT. So maybe early October would be significantly better weather than Nov but not have to deal with the birds and yet not have the summer crowds?

Although I've been there in the summer when the beach was partly closed and it didn't affect much the dunes fun, mostly just limited waterfront camping. The toyhaulers were crammed together on the northern part of the beach but if one wanted to go camp farther south at the beach, I think there was room. But maybe not toilets.

the jamboree is on its 9th or 10th year this year. its similar to SNT but not as big. the last two years were a blast. i plan on hitting both events. just need to make sure I get skillet a handicapped spot in the sand driveway and well be set. otherwise well be hearing him bitch and moan LOL:cheers:

I looked for a closure map, but didn't see anything. The original settlement only required "1/2 mile" of beach. Is that 1/2 mile from the water the whole way down?

This is pretty scary:

when I was there last in the summer, IIRC there was a swath of beach closed from somewhere near pole 6 for quite some distance south, maybe even to the southern fence, I don't recall exactly that part. I think it extended from close to the water (or was it at the water?) to about a 100 yds inland. You could go around it though, but it kinda blocked the beach for quite some distance. The dunes were not affected and one could camp a bit inland from the bird area if one wanted to.

X2 WE NEED A DATE ? ASAP ! Thanks Guys

Lets vote

Why don't we come up with a certain date in October and November and let's take a vote while we have plenty of time,my schedule is still open pretty much we just need to agree on dates and time for this event i could care less if we come up with a name or not at this time.

There are other considerations though besides weather. For many of us, the ability to attend this event and the Pismo Jamboree is based on the two being spaced far enough apart. While I'd love to spend weekend after weekend in Pismo my schedule just doesn't allow it. Maybe that's a unique situation applying more to me. I'd love to hear from more of you.

Given that the Pismo Jamboree is in late September, and one probably needs to space these out by at least a month (preferably 6 weeks), does it really matter if its late October or early November? Sure the weather could be bad but that's wheeling/camping. Isn't the unpredictability all part of the adventure?

Otherwise, to put this event too close to the Pismo Jam could mean this event risks losing attendance to the more established Pismo Jamboree (which will probably have better weather).

I say stick to the original dates and continue planning. Just the fact that we waffle on the dates means some folks won't get vacation requests in time to attend at all.
