Pin stripes came on my 80 purchase last month, and I am kind of bummed. I suppose that they look OK, but I would prefer they not be there. If I take them off, will the paint look really bad underneath? The paint color is dark green, btw.

Show us some pics and we'll say yeh or neh (sp?). Then you can take them off.

Man - and I thought this was going to be a good New York Yankee bashing thread. I'm bummed.

I have the pin stripes as well :princess:

Better than AZ pinstripes.

Rocky Mountain Pintripes count as a mod, they weren't an option.

Leave 'em on. Let the scrub brush take them off. :D

Depending on the condition of the paint -- if it's faded at all -- you might find that the paint under the pin stripes to be a bit darker. Could be there's no difference. Difficult to say -- every rig's gonna be different.

lol i thought this was going to be another one of those stick on magnet threads. I say leave them on.

depends on if it is a stripe tape or a painted stripe. if it is tape more than likely you cna remove them easily but it will leave a ghost where it was. if it is painted on your done leave em be.
to remove the tape stripes an eraser wheel on a die grinder works great. Here hold on let me shoot a pic

It really depends on the color of the vehicle - I've taken them off blue and red trucks an it was really noticeable. You should be ok if its white or a really dark color - test a small section and see what's under it. I've never seen painted stripes on a LC (from the factory anyway) - but who knows w/ dealer add-ons...

Good luck!

I took some tape on stripes of my old black BMW, just pulled them off then used a mild adhesive remover (lemon juice, IIRC), then polished and waxed, when I was done, you couldn't tell they had ever been on there.

Mine are a lot more obvious, and bright gold. Yours look pretty nice, though.

They are taped on. I will try to take off a small section, and let everyone know how it looks.

3M has a adhesive remover. Test on your paint to make sure it doesn't remove the paint first.

My 80 didn't have pin strips when I got it. I went to Colorado on an over grown trail and got my own custom pin striping, tree scraching that is.

if you can find a small can of acrysolv it rocks as well. it is a grease and wax remover but works wonders on gummy residue.

if the stripes on really on good i have used a heat gun to soften the adhesive and then a solvent to remove residue. go back over with a polishing compound afterwards to make shiny again!
