I saw Ron yesterday as I was heading through. He was on his way to the campground. I’m heading down there now, just needed to grab my camper at the cabin up north. We had a pretty good rainstorm roll through yesterday, hopefully he stayed dry.Wheres Ron???

Well the the Thomas’ had a setback. Left Lubbock this AM headed for Taos. About 130 miles out the radio dies then the A/C fan stops blowing. Hmmmm. Pulled into gas station at Clovis, NM. Battery dead. Get a jump to NAPA. Borrowed a multimeter and found 6V. Crazy it fired the plugs. Bought a new battery and returned in shameto home base. No time for a proper diagnosis, I grabbed the alternator from my Fj40 in storage and swapped it in. No charge. Dammit. Checked the VR. No power to the alternator field. Pulled the voltage regulator and removed the back. Checked continuity. Contactors and resistor checked out. Studying the circuit, after 3 beers I thought I should check the ignition source. I did so and nada. WUT? I hot wired a splice from the engine fuse. Finally. Power at the alternator field and charging at 13v.
Hmmmm. Earlier in the week my ICS took a dump. Swapped in a solenoid. When it later failed to operate I checked for 12V and found none. Figured the ‘computer’ had bad connections. No time to fix it, I ….. hot wired a lead to the ICS.
So something’s up with my engine branch circuit. Probably also why the ammeter no worry.
All this to say it ain’t whooped me. We’ll head out for Taos early-thirty tomorrow and then to the site Friday morning with four dozen tamales for the pot luck.
Whew. Retracing those miles tomorrow is gonna suck.
