Archie-

The winch itself is the same as the later units on the FJ40. The only difference is the front angle iron mount (size and hole spacing for the FJ25 bumper) and single roller fairlead rather than the four way fairlead. I'm not sure if the bumper on the '61 and '62 FJ40 was mounted the same.

The PTO box looks similar to the FJ40 (not the same bolt-up and gears are different) The easiest way to tell the difference is that the FJ25 PTO has a shifter made from flat stock with no shift knob, not round stock with a knob like a FJ40.

Don't know of any other PTO that will bolt up.

I'll try to post up pictures later.

First picture is the PTO winch on mine, it's off a '71 FJ40, the front bumper sits out a little further than it would on the 25. The bottom picture is the original roller and front bracket for a FJ25.

This is the PTO box. I don't have a picture of it off, but the pattern is the rectangular 6-bolt like the Chevy transmission.

John #1 may add something, I'm pretty sure he's compared the later Toyota PTO and it didn't look like it could be made to work. He has a FJ25 PTO and a Ramsey winch.

Thanks for the pics Jim,

It seems I will have to dig in further with my setup but I am preety sure that there is no way in this world I will find a stock 25 PTO in New Zealand.

I think I will have to find a way to get it work some how. Although now I am in market for that PTO Lever and Locking Cover.

Wow that's a blast from the past. Not sure if I rehabbed that one or what. I do remember the front is a smaller section than the later ones, you'll have to make the whole thing from a piece of stock to get it right. Taking off a few days to finish the shop I can take some dimensions and pics.

I used that one, a replacement roller and bolt, the ears I built up with weld and welded close the mess along the front.

Wow! cant believe @Splangy found and more surprisingly chose my thread for information & knowledge. (LOL) This just makes me feel somehow present in between you experts. Also you guys just reminded me that my knowledge level is still the same as it was in 2006. Ohhh I am such a hopeless case.

BTW Jim @Cruiser_Nerd nice to see Bear in that very same garage. This is a pure blessing for all of us in this special forum.

I didn't want to start another thread since it was already covered.

Jim, is the material doubled up under the roller? Hard to tell in the pics. Was it not originally welded in the front? If so, was it just "folded" over from the back?

I believe that the roller bracket was just that, not folded over from the back. A single flat bent up at the ends for the two ears at the roller. Welded to the vertical at the ears and welded to the horizontal on the bottom (but not continuous). There was so much missing along the front I just closed it up with a continuous weld.

A pic from the back, the cut only goes 1/2 down. Angle is 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 3/16. Roller is 1-1/4 x 8.

Nice! Now you'll have to get rid of the 3/8 cable and get yourself a chain!
