that is one of the problems with the KZJ78 series, the cost. you can get a nice HDJ81 for very close to the same price...

Not so true here. they still want $13k for a beat up 1990 HDJ80 with 400000 klms. A nice one mid 90s model goes for $23000+
I would get a Patrol before one of them or blow the extra on a HDJ79

your shopping at the wrong end. i shop at the source and that source shows the percieve value of a KZ to be outrageous...
of course you can buy crap KZ for a lot cheaper but the high end stuff ... ... i will pass.

curious, why don't you Oz boys shop more in Japan than in your back yard with prices that you quoted?

because were lazy , and when you want a vehicle or cruiser part there is no patience to wait for one to come from japan , you ring around ,find it ,go through the bottle shop grab some beers and head to check it out or pick up the part

Do you mean parts or vehicles?

For vehicles they changed the law and now you can only source vehicles never sold in oz.
Its dumb because you can import a Lexus if its badged as a Toyota eg Celsior or Soarer
Still plenty of good aussie spec cruisers around if you like 7* series LOL

Parts with shipping from Japan is no cheaper and the supply and quality of aftermarket parts and used parts is good

I think any debate between a KZ or a HZ depends entirely on what you want out of the vehicle . The lighter weight and shorter front of the KZ trucks makes them nicer to drive than a HZ , for general 4x4 dutys and city use a KZ is better.
If you need a tough rugged truck then the HZ is the go , towing and long life are there forte. I dont know what a KZ would think of 4 tonnes of trailer behind it . The light duty trucks are getting tired around 250000klm where as a HZ truck gets to 450000klm before it starts getting tired.

i love comparisions, so lets discuss this statement:

HZJ77 - 2130 kg (4686 lbs)('all bells and whistles' full size HD weight)
PZJ77 - 1920 kg (4224 lbs)(just for full size HD bare bones weight)
KZJ78 - 1930 kg (4246 lbs)(full mean deal weight)
LJ78 - 1920 kg (4224 lbs)(just for comparison sake)
HZJ81 - 2100 kg (4620 lbs)(just for comparison sake)

difference between the HZJ and the KZJ is 440 lbs or the weight of 2 adults or the weight of a bull bar and winch. you REALLY think that weight reduction makes the KZ that much more comfortable for city driving or general 4X4 use?

over all length including bumpers:
HZJ77 - 4685 mm (15.61 ft)
KZJ78 - 4615 mm (15.38 ft)
LJ78 - 4585 mm (15.28 ft)
HDJ81 - 4820 mm (16.06 ft)

so here we have a difference of .23 ft or 7 cm. THAT is going to make the truck different in driving in the city.

but wheel base might be the issue, best check that:
HZJ77 - 2730 mm (9.1 ft)
KZJ78 - 2730 mm (9.1 ft)
LJ78 - 2730 mm (9.1 ft)
HDJ81 - 2850 mm (9.5 ft)
they are exactly the same, even the full sized boat HZJ81 is only .4 ft longer.

finally, for discussion sake, lets look at actual frame length:
from experience since i can't find the dimensions right now. the LD frames are exactly 25mm shorter than the HD frames or 1" difference.

but then gearing and engine size will make a difference when it comes to city driving or general 4X4 use, quicker acceleration, auto vs manual, tire size, dry weight vs wet weight...

you tell me, looking at the specification comparisons, does the KZJ have anything over the HZJ, or the PZJ for that matter, for city driving or general 4X4 use?

I think the 200kg weight difference is a big plus in city driving. The sway and lurch will be reduced considerably.
Also the fuel consumption,Ill bet the 1KZ will get under 10/100.
For those paying high fuel prices, the savings will be welcome.

On the length,I think even a 1 inch difference will equate to double that in a turning cirlce.
How often do have to put it in reverse because you are short of a few inches in a tight spot?

THe KZJ7* also have the coil spring comfort factor, although the leafs can be made more acceptable.

All round I think the KZJ7* would be a more forgiving vehicle around town, where most of us live.

your kidding right?
1" making a difference?
400 lbs... wow, best go buy a civic...

each to their own...

BTW, i lived in the city for just shy of 30 years driving the various models of Land Cruisers including the 77 and the 78 versions and never found either difficult...

but then maybe i am just extra tallented over the Oz boys...
 :flipoff2:

It is a big differnce when you are in the same vehicle day after day .

I ride my bike or drive the Commodore when I get sick of Landcruisers rolling around, not wanting to stop etc

Im not saying they are difficult to drive, only that an inch is a mile when you dont have it to manouvre.
I do know that various countries have parking bays to suit the average size of their cars.
Imagine trying to drive a full size cruiser around the back streets of Rome or London.
Ive seen old caddilacs having to reverse out of high rise car parks here because they cant turn the corners inside.

The sloped down KZJ 7* front would also make it easier to see whats in front;)

Hi
The differences may be small but every KG adds up and 200 of them , thats not too small . That said i know what id prefer for a general run around town with a few 4X4 trips a year .

Well, I just wanted to let all know that I will be the very proud owner of a 1995 KZJ77 in a couple days. A left hand drive one that is. I'm from Canada but living in Honduras, so I know how jealous all you canadians will be for the LHD. It's got a 2" OME lift already, full size home made rack and a few other goodies. I'll take pics of it and post them as soon as I can.

Hello. I am in Jamaica. Just bought a 95 RHD KZJ77 Four Dr Cruiser w/ the 1KZ-T engine. How is your cruiser doing. I am restoring my cruiser. Do you know if i can get a radiator in Canada? Thanks. Kind Regards. CeeBeeOne
