Hi - IDK if you guys get a better one than the chachi one they put in 2012 Tundras, but I thought I'd see if your is a better one.

Problem with ours is it is skinny & when even slightly overtightened, cuts into the battery case & cracks it. When I bought the Tundra in Jan it was obvious & I went crazy with baking soda & got an AGM battery - made sure to not get crazy on the 2 nuts to each wire arm (couldn't anyhow, the arm & 1 rod were both acid eaten

Anyhow - did the LC spec a better one? It would be a no-brainer to do that, or I'll just go bend some 1"x1/8" AL flat bar to make a better one.

If you have the same bridge/hold-down arm, play it cool when tightening. I have my battery tray yet, but it needs a coating of rust converter /bombcan style.

Best battery hold down for the 200-series:

Agree - do the LC's come stock w/ 2 threaded rods or just the rear 1?

Tundras have a 2 rod thing, so trying to see the stock pieces & if there's cross compatibility. I think my battery has a larger gap between the front of battery & back of headlight/core support.

There is just one J-hook rod at the back, the stock hold-down bolts to the front core under that plastic cover, just like the Slee. I can send you a picture of it, you can have it if you want it.

Appreciate the offer @KLF - but between having a ton of AL & steel here, I can bend a flat bar w 4) 90* & have a sturdy hold-down.

I'll measure my gap / post a photo of my core support & see if this may be a solution for other Tundra guys - Mr. T really went cheap on that bridge piece, such thin metal it bends & cuts into the battery corners.

@TonyP - wow you guys got a better one (and even yours aren't overly robust looking)

Tundras really got a lame one, I'll pop a pic in a bit. You'll laugh.

Can't be any hokier than the doubled flanged nuts on the J-hook that is factory. Really Toyota? You couldn't spring for a nicer nylon-insert nut? :hillbilly:

Will be looking for a better hold down option as my starter was dragging the last couple days. I go to check on the battery connections and find This!

Apparently the battery shifted and the arm knocked off the cap.
With half the cells basically dry, the bat still had enough juice to start the truck . I added a piece of rubber under the arm close to the front edge.
Should hold till I can get a better option.

^^^ Tex, that sucks!

I'm still stuck with OEM toyota batteries. They seem to crap out right before the 2yrs are up. So my courteous dealer simply installs a new one. If anything starting related happens w/in the 2 yrs, i get a free tow to toyota. I've an AGM in the other and the 200 will get such if i get out of the swap period.

I like the slee direct option vs the plastic oem tray/set up.

Luckily I'm borderline hoarder when it comes to car parts and had an old dead battery from my scout laying around. refilled the cells and replaced the cap.
a little simple green clean up and we're good as newish.

Here's the stock LC200 battery hold down with the stock type 27F battery:

I replaced my stock battery with an AGM battery also stock type 27F:

I wasn't happy with the way the stock hold down clamped to the battery handle, so I replaced it with a slightly modified (bent to fit) Slee hold down designed for the type 31 battery:

I like the way the Slee hold down engages the entire top surface of the battery and not just the edges.
