This is to record the fine overhaul of Peter’s Australian issue HJ47 cab chassis, ute. It had been modified by previous owner, fitted with auxiliary tank and non specific double battery and some crazy mess of wiring.
The body is 90% rust free with a few rust spots to be managed.
We are going to change all rubbers using cityracer’s @Racer65 high quality remanufactured parts.
The aim and the motto of this restoration as before:
[historical correctness and longevity]

Peter, the owner of this Aussie icon has contacted me in order to find some missing parts and advice regarding his HJ47 he wanted to bring back to original. He drove her up on a weekend and after few steps of meticulous assessments we have drafted a custom plan.
The plan includes Pete’s hands on participation while I ensure oversight and management of the various tasks involved and materials used. The final product is not only a restored 40’ series, and not only a “best what money can buy” restoration but very importantly a personal achievement for the owner. In the meantime I provide and facilitate every aid and specific knowledge, that is essential to ensure a perfect outcome. We are doing it together and I am his best friend for these few months ahead forging special relationship between the owner and the truck.

Great :)
Did the HJ47 in Australia came with white spoke wheels or split rims ?
Perth a nice city by the way.
One trip we made we started in Perth drove with a J75 (16 split rims & 7.50/16 tyres) first to the near by Wave Rock

then on the way to the Northern Territory
the Pinnacles

This is a split rim -country over here mate! In the 70’ and the 80’ even babies used to born with split rims on.
Love the photos.. visit again and I buy you a beer!

Nice another build from a quality builder. Looking forward to this one. Hj47s are special

Massive rust cutout at the kicker/rocker edge. The floor seam is back to oem specs. I use the usual 18Ga cold rolled deep drawing Aussie steel for all repairs.
The cab mount (under the floor pan angle) bracket is a 16Ga reinforcement.

Typical rust spot of all 40’ series is the corner section of windshield base. This one had a few holes and heavy pitting.
Many overlooking the important functionality of the inner edge/ridge’s front double lip that will mate to the recess at the back of the windshield base weather seal.
Windshield Base Weatherstrip Spacer / Seal for Land Cruiser FJ40
Most of the time when the seal is not sitting properly that overlooked ridge lip is the cause. This is often the case when the repairer is not replicating the fold over lip metal sheet exactly as the original. At both ends the last 1 1/2” of the lip running along the front is not folded flush (circled red) to the ridge and if without that tiny detail the seal will never sit properly and of course the weather sealing purpose is totally compromised with water running through and down on the dash.
At the original panel design this lip is the top end of the actual dash panel folded over the edge, and when its rusted with the windscreen base area its difficult to replace, unless one is willing to cut a patch welded to the top area of the dash and folded over. Repairers usually don’t do it. Its too much hustle and they think because its not visible (cannot see the ridge anyway) it can be cut short. Wrong!
