Down hill, that's were this thread is going.

EDIT: If you need a set of 35" chains, please let me know and I will be happy to lend them to you for the run.

I'm in regardless but if I can borrow a set of 35" chains that would really help.

Yeah I think I'll bring the Lotus for that extra little bit of challenge.

well since pappy already thinks this thread is toast :p hijack in progress.

Greg what lotus do you have? my dad and i started a frame off resto on his 69 europa that just got past the teardown and cleanup before it has permanently stalled... :frown: i've always wanted to take it and finish it but i wouldn't fit in it when i was done (i was still naive enough to think i would have when we started it)...

and Ali, i got the DCCD on the sti, that should be good for some points... anyone do the math, whats -5 billion +2?

resume thread...

I agree with Jon, let's get back on track...

I see 4 vehicles so far, all are good to go. who else wants to go and what date are we settling on?

looking back, the 24th seems to be the day that gets the most # of interested people. actually I think it includes everyone that expressed interest. vehicle stats for Evan and Keith?

Agree on the 24th.

Leni--

You are welcome to borrow mine. They are heavy duty, but only two--so either both on the front or both on the rear. You can see what the others are doing that day.

If you are coming to the meeting this Saturday you are welcome to get them then. If not, please arrange it with someone who is coming to the meeting and I will give it to them who then can bring them to you on the day of the run.

Just make sure I get them back at some point.

;)

24th works for me. 4" lift, 315s, armor, locked, winch, recovery points, (need chains), North Face ECWS tent, old MREs, and more firepower than you could imagine.

Thanks for the offer to borrow chains. I will be coming down to the meeting on the 9th, and if you get the day off your more then welcome to ride with me.

On another note, what time and where would we meet on the 24th?

"Shotgun!"

I'm available for manual labor... what equipment can/should I bring?

The :princess: indicated interest in going but I'm thinking this not a good introductory ride... Thoughts?

Onur,

check the label on the chain bag to see if it's fit Leni's tires. I bet not because you and I don't really have 35" tires and he needs probably chains for 35"x12.50x15. These are way bigger than our 315s.

vehicle stats for Evan and Keith?

'93 FZJ80, locked front and rear, +/- 6 inch lift, 35 inch MTRs, armored, 12K winch, chained front and rear.

Let's plan on the 24th!

The North Portal (same place as last time - 550 & 528) is standard routine for snow runs to the Jemez.

Shall we go up to 10 and then come "down" to Paliza? That'd be a change of pace from the normal runs!

IIRC, when I ordered these I talked to the guy and just said I had 35" tires and he recommend what I should get. (I wanted the heavy duty chains).

So, you are right about the actual tire size differences between the metric and standard.

Leni--are you driving your rig down on Saturday? Worst case scenario, we can measure them out on Saturday.

Ya know I was thinking the same thing, more for efficiency and safety. That back of the sadlle section is north facing and steep. Going down it in the snow is scary to say the least and you(or at least I) wouldn't want to have a complicated snow extraction at some of the spots on it. If the group started up that way we'd clear the biggest obstacle first thing and wouldn't be saving it for the end of the day when we're all cold and tired.

the problem with that is all the deepest snow is on the steepest grade. getting up is almost guaranteed to stop us in short order. going up the traditional way, we get into deeper snow slowly so we can know when it's too much to continue and safely turn around.
honestly, I believe we have only made it over the top less than 50% of the time. when we do, it's early in the season. I don't anticipate making it all the way up.

that said, I'm game for whatever.:D

also, Ali and Greg, are you guys in? we know your vehicle stats, but I hadn't seen you say you were in for sure. just checking so we know how many vehicles to expect.

I'm debating on going...hard core snow wheeling on a Sunday seems risky to me :hhmm:
