I was starting to get some clearcoat oxidation on the hood...pretty minimal actually but hell it gave me excuse for a cheap mod. The paint is "auto trim paint" so a flat black paint. $30.00 for the pint, and my auto body friend had everything else.

Took the hood off, We taped it off, scotchbrited the center and then painted...pretty easy. IMO I like the look MUCH better, does cut down on glare (not that it was really a problem lol) but does help. I *might* look funny on some other colors tho.

I've always liked this on Pimp's white 80, and someone else's white 80 whom I cant remember his user name... so I decided to go for it...

Looks great! I was considering this also as it seems my paint is fadeing also. Thanks for sharing:beer:

Very nice. I have been trying to convince the wife that it would help with glare and look kind of cool. It really doesn't stand out as much as it does on the white rigs.

That looks very similar to a "pattern" an old gf used to sport.....looks alot like a "landing strip"...NTTAWTT

I do like the look though. And it would be easy to touch up.

Nice job!

A friend did it on a white FZJ70 and it really reduced the glare. Not to mention it looks great.

I've been thinking on making a large sticker for the hood,. I'd use 3M vynil (the same vynil used for cut-letters or bus graphics) but I wonder if the vynil will damage the paint if I decide to remove it one day.

you could make a big magnant, but the paint under the sticker would not be weathered as much as other paint so you would be able to tell some differance probally

i'd consider doing a stip on the leading edge in black where the rock chips are starting to mount. Has anyone thought of doing a strip along the trailing edges of all the doors as well (maybe in conjunction with the flares and rockers)? I think it would look ok on my blue grey one.
