Old Yeller

As for my truck, I redid all the chrome bits in flat black. There are several products to promote adhesion on chrome - basically a primer- I used a DuPont product. I removed all the badges and plugged the holes. And I painted the TOYOTA on the grill red, to give it some contrast.

I also put on some F150-type mirrors, which look better than the dinky stock ones.

The white is the before picture, showing some of the Bookoo rust.

Cheers trapper,i'll check it out, smoky mountains also,2 fine lookin trucks.

Finally finished this little side project up... took the time to take the mirrors apart.... flood them with on the inside and springs with WD40 and paint them.

Used a whole can of Flat Black over two days to really get them good since they take a pounding. Lots of light coats and then drying under lamps. Piece of cake (each coat took about 2 minutes ;) ) and turned out pretty nice.

This combined with replacing all the chrome weatherstripping has me pretty happy with the look of the rig. Glad to have most of the chrome gone. Still the small bits on the window seals to deal with. Leaving the LC emblems on the side and tailgate "TOYOTA" in chrome as it looks nice to me.

did mine and I love the look

Has anyone painted all the trim pieces in texture black ?

did you use gloss black? flat black? which is best??
I have done flat, hammered and gloss. Gloss looks best, IMHO. Easiest to clean too.

Now that's a nice, clean looking 60.
Only true blackout I have seen yet. Even the door handles. Very nice.

Some day, when I have my dream garage, I'll have a dishwasher that is dedicated to car parts and tools.
And it'll fail in a few weeks, I'm betting. How about a parts washer?

imo....hammered glass black is the best. i even did the wheel wells.....and where the snake blinders were,,,,and the mud flaps...and the bumper end caps

I did semi gloss and it didn't fit my rig so i went to flat black. That said, the paint on my rig is a crappy repaint that is coming off in chunks. When I repaint I'm going back to the stock metallic and my repaint a semi gloss or even powder coat at that time. I think it varies from rig to rig.

I've been using appliance epoxy paint for about five years now. It holds up for a LOOOOOONG time even in direct sunlight. Plus it is a lot tougher that regular paint. I use it on everything, my roll cage, shackles, axles. I just did the four vents on the 60 this weekend. On the front ones I masked off the chrome part, if I have time I'll post pictures tonight.

Have to agree, this stuff is tough. Last year I sanded, prepped, primed and painted my grill with Rustolium for plastic. I noticed a couple of chips a few weeks later. After a couple of months there were quite a lot. Re-sanded and hit with the appliance epoxy and so far it looks the same as the day I sprayed it. I just did the rear vents and will do the light surrounds and side vents soon....though I'm planning on leaving some chrome trim on those....not going fully black.

Just finding this thread now...ten years after the last post. I'm interested in stripping my chrome trim and re-painting it, so I called a plater I work with to ask him about it, and apparently since this thread was last touched, chrome has become a bad word environmentally...the plater says he won't touch it, and neither will anybody he knows. He says he gets 2-3 calls a week from people asking about either applying or stripping chrome plating.
Can anybody confirm this? More importantly, does anybody have a method for either stripping my beat-up chrome trim or prepping it to take paint?
