For those that know Frankie from our trip to Cullowhee, he underwent surgery on Tuesday to correct his hip dysplasia before he develops debilitating arthritis. He's now 7 months old, weighs 85 pounds and has to remain as still as possible for 8 weeks. UGH! They surgery entails cutting his pelvis in 3 places, rotating it 30 degrees to get better coverage of the hip socket on the femur, plating it back together (6 screws used) and then sewing him up.

He's doing well...too well really since he feels pretty good and won't sit still. Anyway, his next surgery (for the other side) is on February 6th. He's a good Cruiser dog, so send over some Crusier Karma for him.

Here he is post surgery...

He looks pretty happy after getting shaved and all those mods put in him. I bet he's cold.

Good Karma vibes from Florida, where it is cold, too.

Jack and Lanie (my two dogs) wish Frankie a very fast recovery. Some people will never understand why someone will go so far to help a pet. Lanie is a "who knows how old" Min. Schnauzer my wife and I adopted from a pound. We figure we saved her life three times since we picked her up from the pound.

My wife and I will be bringing Jack (a Parson Russell - hence the name Jack) on an UC trip very soon. Lanie isn't much of an outdoors dog.

Best wishes.

Ouch, I hate to hear that. Did you have doggie insurance??

My poor male Rottie has really bad arthritis now. He doesn't act like it hurts him but you can tell it does.

I hope Frankie gets better soon!!

Heather,

You probably could have saved some money if you had Troll do this for you. He is pretty good at cutting and turning front axles and this sounds like the same thing.

Awwwwwwwww...........Frankie, you are such a lucky guy to have a dedicated mom like Heather. We know the feeling!!!!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and successful surgery on February 6th!!

From Cassee, Luci, & Bloomer (we'll leave the cat out of this one)

Thanks so much to everyone and your pets! Frankie (and Taylor and I) appreciate the good thoughts and wished. He's doing really well after his first day at home alone today!

Yah, know...I didn't think about cruiser fixes. I am sure that Marshall would have done a great job!

oww that looks rough. make sure to give Frankie a nice treat for Stacy and I. Hope he gets well soon.

Thank you...he's doing really well. This weekend while I was out wheeling, he broke out of his "puppy containment area" and was hanging with the other dogs. Not good. I hope he didn't hurt anything.

Just wait until next week when his whole a$$ end is bald...

Right, like that! Poor dog...look at the poof on the end of the tail. That's gotta do something to your doggie ego.

Ouch $!$!$!$ Tough puppy - up and about after major surgery. Lola gives her best - she's a front seat Cruiser dog who doesn't like 4 point harnesses...:D.

I'll have to reduce this and post later - don't have the software at the office ;-(

Rhodesian Ridgeback? They are such cool dogs! What a great shot!

Best of luck Heather and Franky. I know how tough it is to keep em still. Brodi was supposed to be immobilized for 6-8 weeks which turned to 10 after the broken leg (thankfully he is a narcolept) and it was still next to impossible. as hard as it is and as bad as you feel keepin him imobile you gotta do whats best for him. again good luck and look foward to seeing you both again.

My GOD this dog is wiggly! But the good news is that the Doc said he's doing great and we can let him walk around the house some! YEAH!

He goes in for the second hip on Tuesday. :(

Next hip all done!

CC emailed me and I realized that I hadn't posted about his second surgery. It was done this Tuesday. The surgery went well and his hips are fixed! Like really fixed, I saw the xrays and it's 100% better. YEAH!!! But, he's pretty sore. He only had about 80% use of the one that was done 2 weeks before, so he's really limpy. Poor boy. We have to put him in a sling to take him outside :frown: But, everyday is getting better. He goes back to the Doc in 2 weeks for his suture removal and a check up. Hopefully then all will be well.
