I have a question for the LC guys (or gals) who have shown interest.
What's the bigger appeal. Is it having switchable lights for on the trail or is it having lights that auto on/off with the doors?
I think ideally you'd want both, but if you had to choose. Or maybe not being able to have both is a deal breaker?

First choice for me would be both as well, but if I had to choose one it would be automatic. My idea was tying into the dome light so that it would be automatic, and I could put a switch inline.

Right now this is the best I have been able to achieve in a LC friendly setup. It's less bright than the traditional setup which I'm worried might make the lc guys loose interest.

My rig is a 2000 LX that came with standard non-lit running boards. When removing my AHC this past weekend, I noticed that not only do I have the plugs for the running board lights, but that I also have the matching female (or male I can't remember) receptacle plugged into it with no wires attatched... has anyone observed this on their rig?
Im going to dig around with the multimeter soon to see if they are powered with the doors.

I believe @ballardcruiser had the same boards. Connected up but no lights present. I'm not sure if he has hooked up the lights I've sold him, but if he has, he could answer that. A simple multimeter test could answer it too.
Can you explain more how it's different than the LX setup? I'm not sure I understand why the same brightness is unreachable, to me they look great!
If definitely like to be added to the list. I was going to remove the lights from the running boards a long time ago to do this but never got around to it. My laziness means money in your pocket
Yep, I also have a 2000 LX that had the wiring connectors but no visible signs of OEM running board lights ever being installed. Like DirtDawg, mine had a male/female connector attached (this is great as the wiring was relatively clean once I unplugged the one connector). Anyhow, I can verify that, at least on mine, the wires powered the lights as expected, total plug & play.

The issue is kind of complex, but let me see if I can articulate it.
On the frame mount (LX) the lights face directly downward and are evenly spaced front and back giving a nice beam pattern on the ground. The only place to mount on the LC is the body where the step boards were mounted. The issue with that is the lights are mounted much closer together than the LX frame ones. So if I shot them straight down, they will overlap a lot and look funky (already tried and it looked bad). Another issue with facing them straight down is that when they are mounted to the body, if the arm for the sliders happens to go directly under the light, it creates a large shadow on the ground.
The alternative was to face them inward from the body mounts towards the frame. That makes it a less direct light and thus less bright on the ground/underneath. That's how they are setup in the photo. Im still brainstorming ways to make it better, but its tough.

You can see that the LC ones are closer to the LX ones when facing straight up. I'm going to keep trying to make it better though. I need to get it at least as good as the LX facing up ones before I'll start working on the wiring.

Thanks for the explanation @Ramathorn15. Just thinking out loud... I'd only require one light per side. And forgive me for asking, but why does the frame mounting system differ between the LX/LC?

The light wouldn't be as evenly dispersed if it was only one. Could still work though.
The frame system differs because the LX has two ideal mounting locations on the frame where the AHC bolts. The same holes aren't available on the LC unfortunately.

That would be super helpful. I'd like to get an 03-05 and a 06-07. I'm almost certain the 06-07 will have the same frame bolts as they typically come with AHC.
