I have a 1967 45 with SBC, TH700R4, Orion 4:1, BFG 35" tires. When coasting down hills in lower transmission gears (1st or 2nd) with the transfer case in 2WD high, the transfer case pops out of gear. It doesn't happen with the TC in 4WD or 2WD low. If the tranny is in "drive," the problem doesn't occur.

The engine must be braking the vehicle in lower tranny gears and 2WD high for it to occur.

Any suggestions for remedial action? Thanks in advance.

there was a huge thread on this. too lazy to search for you.

Welcome.

Please hit the F A Q<---- this is a link

There is A LOT of information on the Orion in there, specifically covering this.

If you have specific questions after that, please post them up.

What is your Orion case number?

When did you purchase it?

Who assembled it?

How long has it been doing this?

Thanks for the info, Poser! I've read some of the FAQ (it's very helpful) and will reply with more transfer case details later. It's very interesting: the box engages very firmly into 4WD (top right on the shift pattern) but doesn't feel like it "pops in" firmly when pushing the shifter over to 2WD (top left). There is enough discussion in the FAQ to guide me, and if I have further questions or information to offer, I'll post it there.

Thanks again.
