"Industrial strength AT"? We had a truck sent to us at a mine site with DT's and they lasted 1 week, averaging at least 1 plug per day, before they were tossed. Replaced them with Nitto Trail Grapplers and those outlasted the M55's (a true AT) all the other company trucks were using. By far.

Hmmm, my impression was they were billed as such. So much for that then.

I've put close to 25k miles on my DT's. My rig is serves DD, camping and exploring duties. Realistically I get off pavement at least every other weekend. They have been awesome in the snow, on road, in the rain, in the mountains of Colorado, forest service roads of Oregon, on the slick rock of Moab, you name it. Do I use my rig for hardcore rock crawling? No. Are they the manliest tire out there? No. I had KM2's on my previous rig, and they were awesome tires...off road, but in comparison to the DT's the sucked on-road and forget it in the snow and ice.

Really, the KM2's were that bad in the snow? What didn't you like about them on the road and how many miles did you get out of them? KM2's were on my short list but maybe not so much now.

I had barely broken in my KM2's before I drunk driver did this to me on my way to a week long trip in Death Valley...

So Sadly I shouldn't be the definitive guide to the expected longevity of KM2's. I did get some good wheeling in the Sierra's 2-3 times that winter before the accident. They were awesome off road, but had a really hard time biting in packed snow and ice, which is an area that the DT's seem to excel. I think if you got the KM2's sipped they would be pretty sweet. On road they are a mud terrain, so they are loud and have that low speed vibration you get from the big blocky treed design.

I really want to go tall and skinny (255's) next time around, and the days of my 80 being used as a DD are slowly coming to an end, so honestly I too will be looking very seriously at either KM2's or Toyo MT's.

We have about five months of snow here and hard pack snow and ice for most of that. I bought a set of Duratracs for my 3/4 hd Chevy and had them studded for my winter tires. They were ok in snow and not bad on icy roads but not great on either. I needed a new set of summer tires so I put a set of KM2's on and had them siped and liked them so much better in the snow (we have to pull off the studs about a month too early here) that I gave the Duratracs to my kid and just ran the km2's year round. The Km's didn't last though. Only got about 20,000 on that truck (7,000lbs) but I've had them on my
FJ45LPB for about that much and they hardly look worn. The Duratracs hardly show any wear. I would not get the Duratracs again personally. They had a very annoying high pitch whine and felt like they moved sideways a lot on pavement. Just my 2 cents.

I highly recommend Duratracs for an all terrain tire. The high pitch whine and movement felt sounds like an alignment issue.

I ran MTR with Kevlar and they were great, one of the quieter mud tires I've had on road but don't have the life of an all terrain.
Also have a vehicle with KM2s and those are also great tires but it's still a mud tire and HORRIBLE on snow/ice roads.

Currently running BFG AT and happy enough with them but would like more aggressive, snow rating matters to me though.

Once these are dead I'll be most likely switching to Duratracs.

I finally decided on Goodyear MT/Rs. Going on with an OME 2.5" lift next week. My LC isn't a daily driver and doesn't travel icy roads ever so I figured the more aggressive the better for what I will use it for. I ran the older MT/Rs for years without an issue so I will just stay with what works.

You will like the MTRs. I have had them on 5 vehicles now with good results. I did switch to Duratracs on the LC recently only because there isn't a load range E in 315/75 MTRs. I would suggest getting them rotated and rebalanced every 3,000 miles and get used to noise if you have some chunking from off-roading. No complaints yet on the Duratracs. They have been great.
