I have two deep, long drawers in the back of my work truck (2006 Suburban) that go all the way to the back of the middle row. Even with these two long, deep drawers, I am constantly out-of-room in them.

I would gather everything that you intend to store in the drawers to make sure you are allowing enough room...i.e. I think the "skinny" drawer with the foam is WAY cool, but be sure that you don't kick yourself later for not making it as deep as it's sister.

Good job.

nicely done!

one other thing about the fridge (if that's what I think it is) is that you should make sure the recess is big enough that it won't be an issue if you decide to change models, and also that it won't impede the air flow from the condensor -that might affect greatly the performance of the fridge- again depending on the model.

Yeah I am sure I will still run out of room, we always do. But a rack is in the plan, as is tailgate storage and quarter panel storage.

I thought about an even height system but I need the fridge for all of our excursions. I will have a replacement piece for when the engel isn't needed.

Not sure I would be upgrading fridges. I'm researching like nuts and waiting til the last minute to make sure its the one I will be using for a long long time. Good call on condenser air flow. Just downloaded the PDF for the MT45 so I will plan accordingly.

I'll try to get some photos of mine for you.

I put the Engel as low as possible and used "cutting board" plastic as the slide surface rather than bulky metal drawer slides. Then i went over the top of the fridge space with a solid sheet of plywood. This allows me to crawl on top of all the "stuff" and have a nice flat sleeping surface without having to move anything around.

You could bring your top sheet up to allow 20" of inside room to fit the Engle, then you have more room for stuff inside, rather than on top.

You could do two tall drawers on one side rather than one as you diagram shows.

The void is going to be storage but I didnt finish it before making the images. The remaining space behind the drawer and to the right of the void will be a closed in air space for the woofer.

The space near the speaker is a small book shelf. I wanted them easily handy yet still protected by them selves and not floating around with all the other stuff.

Check the wheel arches here...from mine that I just built I don't think there is space for books in that spot.

but looking good.

the drawer under the fridge, you want to make sure you can still open the fridge fully without having to slide the fridge out. I am just saying you don't want to go too high. with mine you can have the tailgate up and still get into the fridge and after having the convince I would have it any other way.

x2 about the wheel arches. I'm trying to work around those with an interior cage!

1. either all ya'll are at the office doin nothin, but posting on the MUD forum :hhmm:
2. or, ya'll at home with nothing better to do than dream up ideas like joey :grinpimp:
3. or, the office is in the home, so the MUD forum is always open

either way, ya'll are
A D D I C T S!!! :flipoff2:

hope to see your drawers at SnT

hahahahaaha

I'll give you two words.... "chronic insomnia". I sleep barely 4 hours a night because thats all my brain lets me. I do web development and work at home. Web development doesn't care what time you do it. I typically work on a project until I hit a point that I need to confer with the client. From there I use that as an excuse to jump right onto my personal projects until I hit a brick wall. Then I just jump back and forth. This goes from 7am to 3am every single night. I sprinkle in dinner and some family time at night of course but there is plenty of time to get stuff done normally.

Now granted, I could be making MUCH more money and watching way more tv if I just focused on work. But I would go freaking nuts. Right now this IS my hobby until snowboard season starts :D

On a side now, I found a really cool company in San Jose that will CNC my foam for my drawers :grinpimp:

BTW see you on Tues :flipoff2:

It looks like you have given alot of thought to what you want to accomplish but don't forget to give an equal amount of time to what you need and will really use. I have a tendency to try to squeeze too many of the "wouldn't it be cool if it also..." into my projects. In the end I sometimes end up building in things that I don't really end up using:rolleyes:.

My storage setup is not as detailed as yours but I have been very happy with it so far. Had I wanted to incorporate a fridge from the beginning, I would try to get it as close to the floor as possible, I know this would mean redesigning the tool drawer but I think it would make access a little easier.

The others are correct about the space in front of the wheel wells also, there isn't any.

I think that adjustable track tiedowns are a great idea too. I gave them alot of consideration when planning my project as well. In the end, I decided that 6 well placed and supported tie downs would be best for me and have been very happy with that decision.

I used the factory seat bolt holes and steel bracketry to hold down my box. Is that what you were thinking too, or only using the factory tie down holes? I don't think you can effectively use those, they are too far to the outside of the rig. If you want to use the seat bolt holes, I can give you some bolts as I needed to get 50 in order to get what I wanted for my rig (the thread pitch in conjunction with a beveled head is a rare item).

I'll keep an eye on your thread as well. It looks like you're off to a great start.

Well everything I have planned is all in answer to the things I have come across and learned and been frustrated with in my travels thus far. A few items are actual, "wouldn't it be nice if" kind of things but for the most part its all items to make my life easier, be more self sufficient and make sure I have redundancies in place. As far as moving the fridge closer to the floor. I'm not sure. At first that's how I had it bt as I started designing and looking at what I wanted I started to go against that thought.

And yes, I am 100% going to be using the seat brackets/holes in some way and would love to get my hands on those bolts that you have. I was already trying to decide how I was going to source those.

So I did a really basic sketch...

Never mind the ideas you have!!!
If that's your "basic" sketch, I'd hate to show you mine. :hillbilly: That's some serious skillz that I could only dream of acquiring!

Are you gonna do a group-buy/build on this one, too? ;)

As usual, nice going, Joey!

The skills were learned in all of an hour using Google Sketchup. Folks...learn it, live it, love it. Its free!! I've never ever done 3D rendering before and quite frankly I was never interested in it but for this project I just knew it would make my life easier. So I took the time to play with it. Its actually stupidly simple once you know what everything does.

Group buy? Hahahaha, I know my tastes do not run the gamut of tastes on this forum. Although I am pretty sure I could source everything that I needed to make it happen, I don't think I will be doing it. Now when I talked to the foam cutters they were VERY interested in doing a group buy for their stuff. See on that I could see maybe a few people wanting/needing. But the issue there is that not everyone has the same types of tools or even carries the same tools period. So everyone's bag o' tricks would look different. But hopefully as I go overboard on stuff here some people will find something of use and possibly use it to their own advantage. I am trying not to do the same thing as everyone else, but rather take the best of what I see and using it.

Oh...and thanks MOT :D

619toy where did you buy your bolts from? i called a ton of fastener companies and nobody could get me them, so i ended up ordering the 8 I needed in stainless buttonhead from England, they will be here next week. If i go ahead and start making my aluminum setup for sale i need to find a quantity source.

As usual, it looks very nice. I too would keep the fridge as low as possible.

Just PM me your address. If you can Paypal me a few bucks for shipping, they're yours.

I wasn't exaggerating about the difficulty in procuring them:D. I ended up getting them from Pacific Suppliers. Although they probably had to special order them for me, the part number is 135256.
