Seriously...I was enjoying this thread and then it died a few months back. It was like the hottest post on mud and then it quenched like a hot iron and fell to page three...I NEED MY FIX!! MORE SEXY CAD STUFFS!

You've put so much time and work into the design of this I think you should consider building a few for sale. Maybe you could come up with a kit using pre-fab pieces that you threw into a box that required assembly.

You mentioned in a post above that people wouldn't have the same tool tastes as you...so what? Just include the foam without any cutting. Let them do that like sears does with their tool chests. I know if I was in the market for a drawer system, this one is what I would want for the sheer sexiness.

So...any news?

To be honest I was actually contacted by a few people to make them a unit at the same time I was going to do mine. I guess its just as easy to make one as it is three. Of course that all changes when you get to 20 or so.

But I would NOT even consider it unless I was doing the work myself OR I was dealing with a shop that was very close to me and I could watch them like a hawk!

I was talking to a friend of mine that is a TIG welder and he keeps claiming that to make the sub frame out of aluminum box would be total cake. Just a few hours of cutting and welding. The problem is I know WEIRDBEARD is also working on something along those lines and I would prefer not to step on any toes. Competition is nice but CruiserKarma is nicer

I have already found sources for a lot of the stuff that I want to build into the system so the issue isn't dead, its just slowed down. I am lucky in that I got really busy with work projects and I think I am pretty lucky consider what other people are going through.

I will go back and probably redo some of the design so that I can at least give you guys more food for thought. Keep the ideas flowing!

hey Joey, not to jump in here but where as mine is all aluminum and yours is a composite i don't have any issues if you want to make more of these. Mine has had to take a back burner as Uncle Sam has me back in the loop so there is almost no free time to get back to work on mine.

Are you planning to ever use this as a sleeping platform? if so you would probably want to make it 9.5-10 inches tall. Everything looks really good.
I would also like to offer my services as a woodworker. I have a CNC wood milling machine that can cut all your parts quickly, and easily. They will also be perfectly square, and have predrilled holes for all your glides and other hardware. It may be a good option if you do end-up doing multipuls.. Anyway, My prices for milling are verry good. Thanks, and keep this updated.

Ok well thats cool and I will take that under advisement. I know people want other options than paying $1800 from Slee for an Outback set up. Nothing against Slee or Outback. In fact after seeing one in person I fell in love. But coming up with a solution that is AT LEAST half the price would be phenomenal and I think a lot of people that are on the fence with getting one would re-consider. We'll see.

We may need to have a conversation HAWKEYE.

Amazing work...

Very nice work... This thread has reinvigorated my energy on my storage system project. Can't wait to see the next version.... and the version after that, and after that!! :flipoff2:

what about a fiberglass tank for water? Shouldn't have any negative taste issues. Cheaper than aluminum ( I think ).

There are numerous plastic tanks in various sizes already made for potable water. I think I would rather drink out of one of those before a fiberglass model.

any update joey? i am spying a small window to work on mine in april, maybr get the skin on or if its really going get the drawers done. I still have that console to beat into shape. i have all the parts for it minus the lock, so its just fab time. After that, hmm lots of other stuff to do but a total time vs funds vs appropriate shop space.

Well...I have been talking to a welder about making my structures. He wants to dothem but can't because of his schedule and isnt free til June. I signed up for a welding course at Pierce College so I may just do it myself after all. I've been working on other stuff but this is definitely on my mind.

Your a freak and I wish I lived near you. You and i seem to have much in common. The low levels of sleep thing, the cruiser thing, the deity thing. I used to get off on writing Fortran and VBA code. I had to keep a notepad beside my bed so that I could let stuff out. My life seems like an endless stream of self motivated projects. I have a few new ones on the 80 that I have not shared yet.

Nice project BTW.

Haha, Karl I think we are kindred spirits...if only I believed in spirits :D

Yeah sleep is non-existant, Cruisers are my life after my family, deitys are awesome...in my old Dungeons&Dragons games. I actually do a LOT of xHTML, CSS, PHP, mySQL work and often times when I do sleep, its just to get a fresh perspective on how to tackle a problem. I have too many notepads and need to find one that I like and will always use.

And like you I have a large handful of projects I am either in the middle of or have all the parts and just need to start. Dying to get to them. I am actually trying to plan a Canada trip this year instead of just going to Yellowstone. So who knows, maybe we can share an ice tea (I don't drink, my wife actually hates it :D )

Any updates??? I am weeks away from starting construction on my rear storage.... I need some last minute inspiration.....

Hey CHEF, unfortunately no. My new job prevents me from doing pretty much anything especially since I'm out of state or country most of the time. This is still something I want to do pretty badly and I think instead of building it myself I will just find a really good furniture woodworker to make it for me. There is a few new mods I want to do to it now and if I ever get time I will update to motivate :D

Dam, you sound like me, im still trying to finish the drawers i started a few years ago. maybe we should pool resources and finish this stuff.

Ok I know its been awhile but just an update...

I now work for the film industry doing 3D rigs. Just to give you an idea on what we manufacture:

So doing this now has prevented ALL of my spare time from getting used on fun stuff including this drawer project. The side benefit is that I work with mechanical engineers who do my bidding all day long. We now have 7 CNCs and 1 CNC lathe and will soon be expanding to about 20 CNCs. So aluminum, brass, teflon is our domain.

I haven't had the chance yet but I can now make all sorts of cool things to make this project a success. With this also comes the sheer amount of specialized tools and hardware that I never knew existed so I am in a toy store. We also have a vendor that does all of our custom foam cases. They specialize in all sorts but they do all the Hardigg cases with the specialized foam and retaining systems for the military's missile transport cases. So they water jet anything and with many different types of foam. So for the tools, it means putting everything onto a board the exact size the drawers will be, assembling the tools in the order I want them in then taking a picture to size (1:1) then they can scan it in, make the finger cut outs and waterjet it out in a few hours. They have already made over a hundred custom foam inserts for our equipment and cameras and lenses and such.

Sooo..... I am now starting to get my weekends back and I am traveling just a tiny bit less (but not much less) so that means I can start working on this again!!!! Look for updates as I start relearning Google SketchUp. They use SolidWorks at work but I dont have a clue of how to use it.

Pretty cool new gig! Still have the sketchup file by chance? The old link doesnt work any longer. I am working on a similar setup for my 100 series.

Cheers
