ONSC Product Endorsements - what do you LOVE?

Hey All,
Was just thinking about sharing some of the knowledge across the village. Whether it be Cruiser parts, fertilizer, headphones, you name it. If you LOVE it, post it here!

I'll kick it off with this:

Hari Mari flip flops.
I just purchased a pair of Hari Mari nokona flip flops. I've burned through multiple pairs of Rainbows over the last few years and love them, once they get "broken in". Came time for a new pair and I had read the Hari Mari's are comfy out of the box. Hell yes they are! Will update this when I have an idea of longevity, but wow, the "baseball glove" leather is nice.

Sonos
Had this system installed in our house when we moved in 2.5y ago. Still love it and are growing it little by little. It's probably not "audiophile" sound quality, but it's damned good. We have the PlayBar, Sub, and 2 Play1's for living room, Play5 for our bedroom (easily moved outside on a nice day, or to the bonus room if desired), and a One (Alexa enabled Play1). Absolutely love the environment and they are constantly updating the SW with new features. Highly recommend.

I moved over to as much as I can afford on the following:

• Darn Tough Socks - hoping the lifetime warranty is real, love wearing them anyhoo

• Lenovo ThinkPad computers, but am a bit biased
• OluKai Sandals, Birkenstock Shoes, Asolo boots, Danner boots
• Altra Running shoes. Awesome for summery camping and around town.

Solomon Speedcross M&S trail runners. Great grip. Super durable. Light. Quick yo drain and dry.

Tifosi sunglasses for running. Super light. Stay in place. Basically disappear while in use.

DutchWare Gear oversized custom hammocks - longer and just as wide as a double eno.

Levis - it is getting really hard to find the good ones. A lot are stretch or paper thin denim.

Natchez Crepe Myrtle - LOVE this tree.

Amazon Prime - I buy LOTS of stuff from Amazon and won't hesitate to return if it's not exactly what I am looking for.

Smartwool socks - 15 years old and still going strong.

Best investment: 15 year old custom server using a AMD Opteron processor that I borrowed from IBM in 2003. The power supply fan bearings were starting to die so I had to finally turn it off. It's was a private email server, hosted software/movies/photos, and two websites. I used it for VPN for work and photo processing and organization for many years.

I’m a shoe fanatic. Birkenstocks are the best sandals ever. I have several pairs. I gave up on Rainbows in 1999.

Hiking boots: Zamberlan Vioz are the best boots I’ve ever owned and I’d rather wear them than anything else (besides birks). Italian made and worth every penny.

Work boots: Ariat Waterproof Pull-on Work hogs.

X2 on the Smartwool socks.

Levi’s ruined their 505’s a couple of years ago. They are now cut differently (low rise crotch grabbing hipster style is not for me) and the denim is cheap quality. I was looking for a pair of jeans that fit like the good old 505’s and found the All American Jean Company. Their denim is good quality. They are my new go-to jeans.

There is only one brand of canned peas: Le Sueur very young small sweet peas.

That is all.

Astral shoes (based in Asheville): brown Treks and gray/silver Mesh, best warm-weather shoes ever.

REI Sahara t-shirts: you're covered, but the feel is like nothing's there; dry instantly, and provide sun protection.

Any kamado grill (I have a Kamado Joe but am not a brand snob). So versatile.

ExOfficio boxers. A luxury to be sure, but I can't imagine being comfortable in any underwear ever again.

I really like a lot of the Nite-Ize products - the twist ties, line cinches, adjustable bungies. They're affordable, useful, and clever.

Lexus GX470: Creampuff meets billygoat, cruise in style, comfort, and a silky V8. Equally at home at Crabtree or Southpoint as on a trail.

(Odd to see the Smartwool love, all of mine wear out rapidly so I stopped buying them.)

Hmmm quality products, this is where being super cheap for the last 10 years may have bitten me in the butt. LOL

Hilti power tools.... don't have any anymore but my friends that I gave them to are still abusing them 15 years later. Expensive as hell but if the power of the tool is fine you will never have to buy another one.

Oz Tent products...... durable as hell, and if something does break (for example when one doesn't teather it to the ground when airing out and a huge wind gust takes it for a ride and slams it into a fence ) The replacement parts aren't too expensive and it is easy to fix. I do wish we got their full line of products over here though as they are all amazing. The only down size to the tent is the weight and size of it. Roof top or truck bed only.

Merrell Boots.... not the best in the world but for the money they last and that is saying something at 6'8 290lbs, I put a hurting on shoes.


Everyday Scotch... Ben Nevis..... the smoothest Highland Scotch out there.

Also Penderyn Single Malt. Only one made in Wales. Hard to get over here and only one of the Varients is obtainable. Pro Tip you know you are in a great Whisky bar if they have it on the menu... it means they know their s*** and don't just grab all the big well known bourbons and scotches out there.

Not a big coffee drinker any more but when I absolutely need a cup death wish coffee is my go to.

Recovery gear for me is Viking Offroad.... great customer service and people. All ropes are made in house with winchline.com (partner company) They generally come out on top in most comparisons i've seen.

Coffee/tea mugs Dunoon bone china from London.

I keep a cheap knife in each vehicle but do like my SOG, and Gerbers.... I also have some old US and British military knives in a box, both are quality.


One thing I use the most is my Xbox. It controls my music, movies, tv, pictures and streams it all from a family server. Listen to the news in the morning when i'm getting ready on it. Never had a hiccup unlike my playstation I tried to use for the same things.

Yellow Rose Blended American Whiskey - possibly a best buy in a daily / not special occasion whiskey.

Swazi Clothing fleece shirts, jackets, and pants - great comfort and a no questions warranty that covers abuse.

Amazon Prime - living in the sticks, I have all kinds of chit delivered that saves me $$ and a 1hour round trip to town.

Black Rifle Coffee Company coffee - great coffee with a portion of the proceeds going to help veterans in need.

With the type of work I do I switched to performance clothing a few years ago and have never looked back.

5:11 pants and shirts are the sweet spot I found for bang for the buck based on pricing. I tried a couple of other companies that sell way more expensive same style of clothing and quite frankly I was not impressed.

You will usually notice me wearing my snap button shirts or pants which have performed flawlessly in every environment I have been in.
The snap shirts are perfect for travel with hidden chest pockets (secure your passport and cash)
Also the snaps look like buttons but they are the best shirts I have found for conceal carry.
Lastly, the material is tough enough to not wear out even when I have to wear a chest rig and it is breathable enough to wear in hot environments and just warm enough to wear in cooler environments.

The pants are perfect for every environment and the crotch area holds up better than any other pant I have worn (very common problem for some reason in my line of work)
Also the double back and front pockets are perfect for all kind of situations.

Also, exoficio underwear are second to none.

Mechanix Mpact gloves are also my choice for gloves for everything, I have a pair in every truck and in my deployment bags.

Lots of great names here, Exoficio is one of my favorites as well as 5:11. Dry quickly or won't get rotted. Others close to home I would say:

Southeast Overland, Steve and company makes excellent products and back them up with great service

On radios I would add:
Yaesu and Icom radios are both great brands I have tested in many environments, hold up very well.

Got to Go Bag Black Blue Ridge makes great bags, they have held up great as well. Their ordering online is faulty as hell, but if you find them at an event, stock up!

Tekton tools, zero failures so far, great hand tools

Old navy $3 welder's-grade flip flops. Super cheap, comfortable, resilient, super duper cheap. Go through two pairs a year, the thong tears out. Buy two pairs in the spring for $6 and have awesome flip flops until wintertime.

Now I use overland coffee... one of the owners is a guy I went to high school with and also the editor for toyota 4wd owner. Plus profits go to help the poor communities where the beans come from. Super tasty and i'm a straight black coffee kind of guy so I always get the full flavor of the joe.
