I’m in for the “high horsepower german boosted sports cars”...awesome.

I'll just show my favorite german sports car that I've had so not to take over the thread on a rant! I'm a BMW guy at heart and this was one of 2 335's I've owned. 2007 335i 6MT ZSP. I also had a 2009 e90 335i 6MT ZSP RWD. This '07 was not "high" horsepower by some standards but compared to the Miata it was a rocket! Ran e85 with a whole slew of mods making 450+whp at the tires. It was a 1 owner euro-delivery car spec'd out exactly as I wanted and with super low miles and I was lucky to find it years ago. To date it's my favorite car I've ever owned and I'm still sad I sold it!

My dad has the exact same car in metallic blue or something like that.

I have a friend with a black 2011 bmw 335d turbo (maybe twin) for sale. nice shape 130k on the clock

I believe all 335d’s were automatic.

Boooo!!!!!! Why can't the world give the US a sporty diesel with a manual.

Just a few more years and I can import a late 90's V8 diesel Audi with a manual I guess :meh:

If BMW had offered one with a manual I probably would have bought one a little while ago! Even though the efficiency of the 335d over the 335i is marginal, it was a cool idea to make a sporty diesel for the US market. Then poor execution to offer it as auto only.

Truth

Unfortunately I think diesel is slowly dying at least in cars. Many countries in the EU are pushing for heavy regulation and choking emission requirements that push their economy far below hybrids. Some Cities are calling for their banning. They were "finally" starting to gather some steam in the US with many companies about to roll out models but VW and diesel gate killed that pretty fast. Hell it wasn't that long ago that diesel was the new fuel for le mans and Audi was promising a V10 diesel R8 with a manual. Now the alt fuel is electricity and all the big companies are rolling out performance E vehicles. (Which i'm fine with just wish they would also do diesel) Other than big trucks I think diesel is a dying animal here. Unless bio gets a huge push soon which when going up against big oil will almost never happen. Sad the algae bio diesel farms in the South West had huge potential.

I don't think I could own a BMW that isn't a manual. Shame I thought that some did come with it but after looking around that was a Euro only thing.

Definitely not mine but I did get to spend a BUNCH of time behind the wheel of it. I know it’s a totally different animal but it wasn’t a manual and it did not disappoint.

They are cool for sure. For me though to want something bad it needs to be a manual trans, my LS430 is the lexus equivalent of that car (well maybe not the alpina 7 series but the regular one) and in sport mode on the suspension and power mode on the trans it can scoot for such a large car but to be honest i'd rather be driving a corolla with a stick so I just feel more connected with the car ;) The lexus shines on long runs it is uber comfortable with the suspension out of sport mode, gets good mpg and is quiet as a tomb.... but even then my left foot and right hand get itchy to be doing something.

Some of the older 7 series from the 90's did come with a stick although extremely rare. All my cars except our bronco are getting sold soon though. Getting an older pickup that can tow it to the trails and is dirt simple and cheap. MPG doesn't matter to me right now as my commute to the train station is under 4 miles. And I can pay down debt with the proceeds.

Maybe when its time for another car when I have to drive myself more to site inspections i'll spend some time looking for a manual luxury car... or by then I may be able to import one from the EU or the UK.

That’s not just a normal 7 series.

I know.... it says alpina in my post

Roger that. I just couldn’t imagine anyone would have chosen a manual Corolla over a B7 Alpina.;) I also have a Mark 2 diesel Jetta I will gladly trade you for your LS430........the jetta’s a manual.......

Lets not get crazy now... I said when driving spiritedly...... 99% of the time i'm not and love the comfort. My huge frame needs lots of room ;). When i'm pushing it in an automatic I don't fell connected at all. I'm obviously in the minority though since manuals are disappearing faster than Jussie Smolletts career. The majority of 2019 manual cars are economy cars :frown:

My only "performance" dd that was an auto was my first mustang. I enjoyed driving my sisters manual escort much more when pushing it at the time despite the fact that my mustang had 3 times more power and would roast it in any kind of race. After that I decided if I bought a car for speed it had to be a manual or swapped to a manual at some point.

On a big highway cruiser like a LS lexus or 7 series bmw I can deal with the auto while driving normally they have speed and comfort and make you fell like a million bucks when cruising down the I5.... but when i'm doing anything other than flooring it in a a straight line I miss every manual car i've ever owned.

Besides I think me sitting in a shopping cart rowing down the street with an oar is faster than a MkII diesel jetta. :flipoff2:

But like i'm said i'm selling it soon... you want it i'll make you a deal :)

It may be in my DNA
My mom drives a stick (wait that didn't sound good)
My wife does
My Dad does
My two biological sisters do
My brother does
All my cousins both male and female sans one does
Most of my Aunts and Uncles do
My Grandpa did
My 92 year old grand mother up until 3 years ago did.... now she walks everywhere.
etc.....

I think a lot of what you prefer is just what you are used to.

I'll say one thing about the DCT...it is fun as hell. Engaging w/ rapid shifts, rev matching, etc.

It's my digital to the analog sitting next to it! Both fun but in very different ways.

I don't have much seat time with a DCT so I can't comment too much. At least I don't think I have.... were the early lexus IS-F's DCT??

but here's a picture for you
