Jonny,

Your motor in any of these models.

Your welcome.

So I've never really looked at ford trucks but after riding in my buddy's f250 I kinda started looking i like the space in them and from what I've seen on Craigslist can be found cheapish... hmmmmm :hmm:

I had a weak moment, got all misty eyed by this 1980 LAND ROVER DEFENDER, There is something about a pre-83 Santana that I just love. Spent all night thinking about it, hoping my youngest gets a scholarship so I can buy this, saw it sitting in the driveway... Then my brain kicked in and reason slapped me back to reality. Would be a nightmare in the States to keep that running.....

Nightmare??.... no electronics. Easy Pezy... it' the later models from about 85-05 that are the issues.

The parts would be the challenge, I did go as far as chasing all the parts vendors, etc. All in Spanish which is not a problem, but not easy to find. Pre 83 is the older 6Cyl 3.5s, Santana didn't follow Solihull direction for engines and can be hodge podge.

But, Colombia has a lot of FJ43's..... Looking better everyday

Yeah but there are more and more outfits getting into the export game out of Colombia. That tends to drive the market up. I was in Colombia for six months and made a few connections. And the consensus is that the longer they hold on to the 43s the more valuable they will be. The more demand from the states only confirms that.

Been there too many years ago, chew some of that dirt, Colombia, Panama, Honduras, Nica, Venezuela.... anyway, do have friends who retired there. Just waiting for the right time for me. If not, Spain!

Colombia....Like Tony Montana said.... I do love the Cumbia

Question for the smart people: Today at the Vet Day Ride in Uwharrie I had a very cool, clean looking 85 mini truck in the group. Owner just bought it, and never been off road. We are all in 4Low, driving through basic trails, get to first hill and he can't make it. We all notice he is only on 2WD. Hubs are in locked position, he is on 4L and we confirmed it, but no 4WD, only 2WD (rears). Anyway, get him up the hill (lowered rear tire pressure, 2 or 3rd gear start). Same issue over and over. We stopped for lunch in flat area by river and I needed to check his truck further.
  • Truck off, In gear, on 4WD, the front prop shaft is locked, not loose as I tried to rotate it from underneath
  • The linkages do work, and the Low transfer case does work too
  • Front prop does rotate when engaged under power while driving, we powered back off
  • The hub locks are very easy to move, smoothest I have ever seen
  • Lift up one front wheel, and see what kind of resistance I feel rotating tire (4L, hubs locked). There is no resistance, I expected some, at least some noise from the spider gears on the open diff like my 80.
I am suspecting there are no axle shafts up front. The front wheels spins with zero resistance, like the rear wheels of a Front Wheel drive car. He just retired from the big show and now has a sweet looking truck that might have been misrepresented, but he was taking in all in well.

Anything else I could have checked? There where a few mechanics in the group and no one could come up with anything else. Thanks guys.

You could see if Natalie might go for this......deer protection only, of course ;)

Is that a leaky wheel cylinder inside the driver front tire? Because my :princess: needs her brakes.

LOL, its a SEMA truck, I dont think they are acutally supposed to move under their own power ;)

I recently read a thread in 80's tech about a guy who just bought an 80 that was missing the axles. Posted a pic of his surprise discovery - daylight at the other side of the hole.
