I am sitting here watching the Sunday news shows and Veteran's Day is a feature topic. This gets me thinking about my father, who at age 16 used his older brother's ID and joined the Navy. He fought in the South Pacific, island hoping throughout the war until the 2 bombs were dropped. The stories he did tell me about the war were horrific and make it hard to imagine how any of these men came home and stepped back into a "normal" life.

A sincere Thank You For Your Service to all active and retired vets here.

I recently read a thread in 80's tech about a guy who just bought an 80 that was missing the axles. Posted a pic of his surprise discovery - daylight at the other side of the hole.

Would this improve gas mileage? Because if I'm reading this correctly, this makes the wheels free spinning right?

Guessing he bought that sight unseen

Yep it would be the same thing as running hubs unlocked and the cdl locked.

Most people who do the 2wd conversion report little to no improvement.

Was it red? might have been my old 80. When the front diff locked up, I yanked the birfs the halfshaft and ran it for years ....
I tried to convince myself I saved on gas....I dunno for sure

Shoulda bought a Land Cruiser.... that little puddle wouldn't have been a problem....

LOL- Two thoughts come to mind watching that: 1. I would pay good money to get to do that legally. 2. Would make a great Tacoma commercial . . .oh wait . . . Prius already did that:

We had an exciting morning. We got a hysterical call from my daughter in her bus on the way to school from swim practice that there was a shooting at her high school.

I loaded up the Tundra around 8 AM with my 300 BLK, my new Glock 43, 2x First Aid kits and raced to the Lowe's parking lot to pick up my daughter. Her bus driver left the school line and raced to the Lowe's to avoid incident upon learning the school was on lock down for an active shooter.

Ended up taking a few of my daughter's teammates from the swim team to their homes, as well . . .and then the news came out that it was "a hunter" or something.

Northwood High School is safe. Sheriff says there is no shooter

We had to inform the school that my daughter also got a SnapChat from someone she didn't know that she should "Stay Away From School" BEFORE anything went down :\ So all VERY confusing right now.

We ended up taking her back - - so looking forward to her getting home tonight to discuss the crazy day :\

BTW - Be sure to remember that you have to stay 1000 feet away from school property with weapons. I knew this and was careful of it.

holy crap! glad everyone is safe. smart bus driver to divert to a safe location

Actually I think that ruling has changed somewhat. I'll try to dig up the info.

I was fortunate to never see anything like that. All I did was fix airplanes. I cannot imagine how hard it would be, much less to be 16 and then have to deal with it. My hats off to him. Thanks for sharing that Stan. :beer:

The 1990 Safe Gun Zone Act specifies the 1000 feet rule. That law has not changed. However, there have been numerous cases where the law has been challenged and defendants have "won" exceptions, so there is precedent under "common law" that exceptions to that law are acceptable.

It gets worse when each state allows for DIFFERENT exceptions.

When I took my CCW in KS - KS actually ALLOWED CCW carry in School Zones, so the advice from our trainers was "we don't know what to do here, but if you have to, you should." :) I believe it is still that way today:

I don't know the NC laws, but will look them up or look forward to your feedback :)

i would suggest reading all 45 pages but, to save some time in reference to schoool property

blah, blah, blag, down to page 21

Although a person may have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, permittees are not
authorized to carry the permitted weapon anywhere they desire. The weapon may not be carried
in the following:
1.
Areas prohibited by G.S. § 14-277.2 (Picket lines or demonstrations);
2.
Areas prohibited by G.S. § 14-269.4 (Certain State properties such as courthouses);
3.
Areas prohibited by rules adopted under G.S. § 120-32.1 (Legislative buildings);
4.
Areas prohibited by 18 USC § 922 or any other federal law;
5.
Any law enforcement agency or correctional facility;
6.
Areas housing only State or federal offices;
7.
An office of the State or federal government that is not located in a building
exclusively occupied by the State or federal government;
8.
Any premises where notice that carrying a concealed handgun is prohibited by the
posting of a conspicuous notice, or statement by the person in legal possession or
control of the premises; or
9.
School grounds under G.S. § 14-269.2, except permittees can secure their handguns
in their vehicle on school grounds. (Note: Private schools reserve the right to prohibit
firearms altogether.)

blah, blah, blah, down to page 28 (the key word is a locked vehicle.)

section i.
A person who has a valid concealed handgun permit, or is exempt from obtaining a
permit, who has a handgun in a closed compartment or container within the person's
locked vehicle or the handgun is in a locked container securely affixed to the person's
vehicle. A person with a valid concealed handgun permit may also possess the
concealed handgun on his/her person while in the locked vehicle on school grounds.
This individual may unlock the vehicle to allow another person to enter or exit the
vehicle provided the firearm remains in the closed compartment or on the person at
all times and the vehicle is locked immediately following the entrance or exit of the
vehicle. It would be lawful for a concealed handgun permittee to remove a handgun
from a vehicle on school grounds if done so in response to a life threatening situation;

there are also a couple item in the house, that lawmakers are working on.

Thanks, Eric - a LOT of differences vs KS . .AND a great start to my NC CCW permit testing!

I guess that explains the 10 or so police cars that went by me going through pittsboro this morning. I wonder how far away the shot was

I don't know if anyone else noticed but Brittany Force won Top Fuel (drag racing) at Pomona and clinched the Top Fuel title, only the second woman to ever accomplish that and the last time was 35 years ago. Not only did she win but her sister's husband took top honors in Funny Car and her sister Courtney took third overall in Funny Car. Tell me that John Force isn't about the proudest father out there. Over 330 MPH in less than a quarter mile, you go girls!

In other news Danica Patric crashed another car and came in 23, again......................
Yet she is the woman other women hold up as an example. Go figure.
