The second day we were scheduled to run the east side of The Rimrocker Trail but the torrential rains made that a less than desirable option. The backup route turned out to be a great day. We started on the Last Dollar Road to Telluride and then Ophir Pass back to Ouray. It was a relaxing but amazingly scenic day. And again, a great group of people.

On the final day, we signed up for Poughkeepsie Gulch which is a spectacular trail that sees you cross three mountain passes and a wide variety of terrain. The route starts on Mineral Creek trail, ascends to Hurricane Pass, and finally Corkscrew Pass. This is officially my favorite trail in the area. It has it all. Steep rocky sections, water crossings, thick forests, exposed shelf, mud, sand, and a beautiful alpine lake. Highly recommended.

LCDC was a blast and it was a real privilege to get to meet some of the people behind the screen names on here. I know its cliché to say it after an event like this, but sincerely, everybody we met was so nice and approachable. So many amazing trucks, trails, and people in such a great location. I hope I am lucky enough to get the chance to do it again.

After all the goodbyes, we made our way back west. My wife and daughter flew back so it was just the boys again. We pulled out the Benchmarks and started thinking about what options were for the ride back. Obviously there are quite a few, but we wanted to do something that we likely wouldn’t have the chance to do again (or at least do easily). We didn’t have a huge amount of time so we wanted to find a trail that we could do in a couple of hours that wouldn’t require backtracking and we wanted to go on a route that we have never been on before, so we decided to take 191 south to Mexican Hat and run the Valley of the Gods trail, which I have read about a few times before.

There are actually quite a few sights in this general area and it would make for an excellent multiday overlanding trip. In addition to Valley of the Gods, there is the more famous Monument Valley, Goosenecks State Park, and Natural Bridges National Monument. There Is also the Moki Dugway, which is a cool 3 mile drive up steep switchbacks carved into the face of a sandstone cliff. As you go up, the views down into the valleys are amazing.

Needless to say, this place is not easy to get to. If you draw a circle around Mexican Hat with 100 mile radius as the crow flies, there would be no interstate highways, and no major cities (although Page, Durango, and Moab might squeeze in to the circle If you squint just right).

Looks like an epic trip! Great photos @1world1love. Also wasn’t aware of the Morrflate - checked out their website. How do you like it? Seems like a good product. I’ve had the Powertank digital inflator for a while after @indycole introduced it to me at a previous LCDC and have been happy with it, though this seems like next level.

Hey. Thanks and yeah, it was a really great trip. I like the Morflate a lot. While I don't think it saves a lot of time with my smallish compressor, it does save a lot of hassle. I can connect all 4 chucks and sit back and chill. Also, the fact that it equalizes all 4 is nice too. It works really well for delating too, for the same reason. You can connect all 4 and open a the main valve to your desired pressure and then close the valve for about 30 seconds and they all even out.

The National Forests have been closed for the past several weeks due to ongoing threat of wildfires. Some are still closed, but thankfully many opened back up, which is great, because LCDC seems like forever ago and between the kids going back to school and work being crazy busy, we have been desperate to get to the mountains.

We were limited to doing a weekend trip so wanted something reasonably close. Unfortunately, dispersed and primitive camping is still prohibited for the time being. Still, we wanted to get away somewhere remote. After talking to some nice rangers in Tahoe National Forest about options, we found a great group campground near French Meadows right near the headwaters of the American River. The great part is that it is a huge campground that can accommodate ~150 people and there were only four families. This ensured that we would have plenty of isolation, not that it mattered, because there was nobody around there for miles. It was just like dispersed camping, but with vault toilets, water taps, and tables. The campground itself was excellent. Well maintained, clean, and fairly wooded, and with the American River (barely) running beside it.

I didn't get many shots of camp, but we got a few of us running a section of the Hell Hole trail which was nearby. It was pretty late in the day so we did not get to run the entire trail, but what we did was a blast.

@indycole @psnyman @1world1love check those air filters. Even with the snorkel mine was a dusty mess, felt like the movie Mad Max in that sand storm lol @indycole those rear facing LEDs did amazing breaking through the dust storm while on your 6.

Ha. Yeah, the dust was crazy for sure. I think I inhaled and ingested a couple of pints worth while we were airing up. It was insanely dry out there and you can see why they closed it. I don't think I've ever seen it like that. We stopped in Foresthill for lunch and the owner saw me and asked if I'd been rolling in the dirt

I will swap out my air filter this afternoon and see how it looks. I'm going to take a leaf blower to the inside, outside, and engine bay as well. It's about the only way to get dust like that out of some places, and even then, there are specks that will be there long after I'm gone.

So I changed my engine air filter and it was actually not that bad. I had just changed it a couple of weeks ago though. Still, I thought it would have been worse. The cabin air filter though

Good to know. Will check my cabin filter too.
I ended up using my shop vac to blow out all the dust, worked great. Never thought of this approach before, good call!
