Graham County, Arizona
Design goals – Simple, convinces, and dual purpose.

I start each trip with ~7 gals
4gal – Swiss water bag
.75gal – Camelbak
1gal in the rack
1gal in the fridge
.25gal driver seat

Swiss water bag (tap water) is used for in the event of a cooling failure, shower (1.5gal needed), dog water, and general clean up. Could double to haul fuel in an emergency.

Camelbak (RO water) is used for hand and face washing, jetboil cooking, teeth brushing, quick drink for the dog, and also portable for hiking or MTB riding.

1gal out and 1 gal in fridge of RO water for drinking and back up for the Camelbak

To keep everything filled during extended travel I carry a Katadyn water filter if RO water is not available.

I choose not to put all my water in one location for convinces, usability, and backup. If one location fails Im not without water.

Fabbed a mount using the seat belt bolt to hang the Camelbak. I cut a hole in the side of the Camelbak for better flow and to lengthen the hose to extend over the tailgate. Added an optional tip for better water stream

As I refill my personal water bottle I replace it with warm rack water. At quick glance I know where my drinkable level stands.

The swiss 20L water bag is super tough. A 200lb man can stand on top without failure. I store it under the dogs platform in the floor keeping the center of gravity low and very accessible. In the past I have used the bag to put out a vehicle fire. It’s portability makes filling the shower bag easy.

This system makes living out of my 80 very convenient and trouble free. Now just need to get more free time.

Phil, you are always practical in your approach towards everything. I like the idea of multiple water sources not putting all your eggs in one basket

I have a couple of the Swiss bags. Havent used them yet. Do you get a rubber taste from it?

At first yes, I found by filling the bag with water and setting in the sun a few times takes most of the odd taste out. For the most part I dont use the bag water for drinking but before the addition of the Camelpak I used it for cooking and coffee.:meh:

I'm currently using one of those solar shower bag things. 5 gallons with an on off valve and hose that I replaced with a longer one. It sits on the same side as yours with the hose coming out under that tailgate strap when in use. It's so great for washing bait slime off your hands after putting bloody Bunker chunks or clams on the hook. I put about two or three ounces of rubbing alcohol in the water to keep it fresh for a few days if need be. Obviously it's not for drinking. There are other alcoholic beverages for that. :)
