I'm getting ready to do an ome lift on my fj62. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks I don't know about going in. Thanks in advance.

-Lift and support frame (hoist)
-Remove tires and let axle hang.
-Support axle at this height with axle jacks.
-Cut off old u-bolts
-Remove shackle and fixed bolts
-Smash out old suspension

- Install shackle end first
- Install fixed side (centre of truck)
- Install u-bolts and shock plate and then lift axle on it so that the bolt aligns with the hole in the plate.

repeat 3 more times

This was actually a serious question. This just happens to be my first fj62 lift not the first time I have turned a wrench.

Depending on how long your bolts have been in the bushings, a torch to melt the old pins out of there may be a good idea.

The tailpipe (if in a fairly stock location) interferes with the LR shackle - I had to drop the exh system on both my '60 and my '62. And FJ62s have the funky rubber spring isolator that must be dealt with - I think it's discarded in the case of OME lifts.

60's have that insulator as well.

Only advice I have is get the 3" heavy set if you are like me and go out loaded for an excursion! You'll get used to "the ride". Also, spray the heck out of everything a week before you start banging with a hammer. Good luck. :steer:

Yeah it's discarded and replaced by a bushing to resize the centering pin to meet the size of the spring perch hole.

is quite literally what i did. drove in at 10, drove out at 5.

Also, when you go to put on the shackle, it may not line up. Using a ratchet strap or come along on the axle will enable you to move the axle easily to where it needs to be so things line up.

So I tossed in the rear springs last night. Thought I'd be able to finish the whole thing in an hour and a half. I was only able to finish the rear. The worst part was the pin in the frame on the front of the rear springs. For no rust on the pin they were a pita to remove. I will toss the fronts in before work in the morning then chase my rear vibration down and solve it.

Well lift took a total of three hours. My vibration is from the rear drive line. It appears took have a bent or twisted yoke. Now the search for a drive line or do I just have one built.
