I think I am going to get the OME springs and shocks from Christo. I currently don't have the front bumper, but I plan on getting it later. So, I am thinking I should get the heavy lift springs. My search showed some people had some handling issues without the bumper. However, members at the Rising Sun Club meeting tonight told me that isn't any issue. Christo also recommended the OME shocks. I don't want to get cheaper shocks and have to get better ones later. They are expensive, just want to make sure they are worth it. That will max out my toy budget for the next 6 months.

Anything I should be concerned about with this scenario, or something different I should do?

I did a search and did not exactly find the answer to my question, but it helped lead me to this choice.

I only want 1-2" more of lift max. I want to be able to get it in the garage without a problem, and still use it tor drive my family around, yet eventually wheel it. After, bumper, skid plates and sliders.

Thanks,

Ken

Romer,
For what its worth, I have had the OME Heavy lift and shocks on my truck for last year and half and the ride has been fine. The truck drove alot better after switching out the suspension. I personally would recommend changing out the whole suspension system.

As for fitting into the garage I was still able to fit in the garage at home when I had the stock tires. After I put the 315s on I was not able to make it in without the POS roof rack touching the top of the garage door. But I have since taken the rack off and can make it in without touching the top of the garage door.

I will have the ARB Bull Bar this coming week which will put some weight on the front. Will let you know how the ride changes after installing the bull bar.

Hope that helps you a little.

Steve

P.S. I have the 850/861 N73/N74 OME Setup w/o the Caster Correction installed. Will have the CC installed after the Bull Bar and Rear Bumper Install.

Ken, we have probably done about 300 plus of these lifts. If the above is your criteria, do not do the heavy lift. I personally do not advise a heavy lift without a bumper, even with caster bushings. Also, if you do decide on the heavy lift, your stock shocks are going to be to short and bottom since you will get more than the prescibed lift.

I suggest driving one of the trucks with 3+ inches and incorrect caster and then drive a corrected truck and see what you can live with.

I would like to drive a corrected truck too. Just to see what all the fuss is about. I just don't understand why you guys don't like wrestling your truck to keep it in the lane driving down the highway. At least it keeps me from falling asleep behind the wheel.

You can always get the lower lift or medium springs now and sell them when you finally get the bumper. People gobble up used OME pretty quick and resale is good. Swapping out new springs is easy enough too, especially after you've done it once.

Just get the front bumper and you won't have a problem... :D

as far as the question of getting the OME shock or not. I made the mistake of not getting them initially. After a few weeks I kept bottoming out on the rear end especially. I had to then order the OME L shocks and the truck rides like a Cadillac now!
go ahead and cough the little extra up now and not waste the time or extra expense later on!

I just installed the heavy lift w/ caster cor. etc. that Slee has--the Cruiser drives fine--I even put 2 trim packers above each spring to accomodate the 315's that I can't wait to buy :) You should just buy the whole heavy kit and plan on a bumper down the road....

I thought the heavy lift springs produced more lift than this. Have you already got some lift or something?

Even with the heavy lift I think you'll be able to get in the garage (but you'll get more than 1-2" out of it definetly). I can fit in our 7' garage no problem with the heavy springs and 1" spacers in the front. I have a ARB bar, no winch, no rear bumper. I still have atleast 2" to spare.

Kumar (OME 'J' springs with 1" front spacers and 37" Krawler tires, ARB front, no winch, stock rear bumper) can fit in my garage no problem also. We both still have the factory roof rack also.

Good Luck,
Mark

OME shocks...at least

Romer,

I just installed the N73/N74 OME shocks from Slee and can tell you they are well worth it! My GF said she noticed the change right away. I am eventually going to lift the rig and it is good to know that I won't have to change the shocks and that it will ride even better than the improvement I have already gained.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I could do a little more lift. I got a little lift ou of the 285's. I don't want the 6 inch lift, what do you get on the average with the OME medium setup or the heavy setup?

You can run Edelbrock IAS shocks like what I got. I have no lift right now but the shocks can take up to a 3" so all I need is springs. I don't know how they compair to OME but my wagon rides alot better than my dad's with stock shocks and heard only good things about the shocks. Also the shocks run for around $100 from 4wheel parts wholesalers.

I have decided on the 2.5" lift ( Measured the garage) OME from Christo. Still debating between the Heavy and Medium because I really want that bumper with the winch, but can't do all at once. I'm thinking of having Christo install it. I know I could probably do it, I put the lift in on the 40. But since this is my DD I want to make sure the caster adjustments are done right. I didn't worry about that with the 40.

Good idea. If your time frame for the armor is over 1 year then go with the 851/860 combo. This combo will still work very well with the armor and you can install the heavier springs once your truck is loaded all the time with the heavier weight (rear drawers, winch, dual batt, etc.)

That's Christo's advice as well. I can't see going against his advice even though others tell me its OK.

I will say this, Ken, I like the handling of my 80 a lot better now that I've bolted on some mass, compared to a couple years ago.. 850's & spacers front & 863's rear, was pretty bouncy before, now it seems to hug the raod better, a lot more solid than it felt with the same suspension and stock bumpers. Sounds like you're on the right track though.

Then again, I bet you go bigger within a year- :flipoff2:
