Well after my LS1 engine & SM465 install I painted it olive and installed fenders, hood, tailgate, seats, seat belts, new wheels/tires, new wiring harness (not much fun but works great), relocated battery behind back seat (will be running dual batteries) etc....
Still have to install instrument cluster and dash knobs.

That color is one of my favorites. Any info on it?

Great looking project.

Gotta love the YOM (year of manufacture) Texas plates. I put a set on mine. 5 year registration for about $50 and no state inspection required. Big money saver there and looks cool to boot.

I used paint code 7924 which is a Sherwin Williams Paint code.
But just a word of caution.... If you go to your local paint shop and look in their books, you'll see several different Olive codes produced by Toyota; some are more brown and some are more green. If you have them mix up one of these codes, it won't come out the same (I tried).

I gave my auto-body paint store the Sherwin Williams code 7924 and they translated it to something could work with and I was happy.

I used a "clear" see-thru bedliner and tinted it with a quart of olive paint painted the underside of my hood, inner fenders, and interior.

So you used a urethane based paint? What brand of paint? - looks awesome!

Sweet, loose that upper hose:p:p

I found the heater center unit, did not locate a duct, but ain't done looking yet.

Thanks

Yea......
I still need to do the following:
Make a new upper rad hose using a couple 90 degree elbows...
New clutch and brake line (they are stretched pretty tight and do not have the flex coils to compensate for drivetrain/body movement/vibration)

Find the PCM pinout for the 2 wires coming out of GM Altenator (where on PCM do they connect)

Fix driveline vibration - getting shaft balanced today
blah blah blah.....

sweet

sweet nice motor install would have like to see a build on this but the end result is very nice

I like the bumper silver I did mine too after orig painting it black, some things just look "right"

Which wires?

Thanks

I have a 2002 5.3 in my FJ. Which wires are you trying to locate? Which radiator are you going to run? I got a super sweet unit from Ron Davis racing that fits into the factory bracket and has all the correct connections for the Chevy.

I also have an intake cover for the top of the motor if you are looking for one.

Kerry,
Would you please elaborate on how you were able to do this? Did the DMV look at you like you were crazy or is this an easy deal? I have a 1975 tag bought on fleebay and would love the opprtunity to use it. Now it's just decoration in my mancave.

Very cool plus cost advantages too.

Do you ever get hassled by The Man?

I just spoke to the AL DMV and they can do this and it's cheap BUT, there are caveats. A YOM plate is considered the same as a 'Vintage" tag which restrict one to only driving " to and from a car show and to buy gas". So at least here in AL daily driving one can result in unwanted attention from The Man and a fine if "Mr. I am god because I have the badge and gun" doesn't believe you are driving to a car show on a Wednesday afternoon in the rain.

Rules can be different in other states but I guess I answered my own question at least where I am located. Can be done but comes with conditions.

NICE PICS AND TURN SIGNALS. NEWBIE QUESTION. I HAVE A 1972 CRUISER AND HAVE NOT POSTED A PICS, BUT I WILL. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET IT READY TO PASS INSPECTION IN TEXAS. COPENHAGEN MENTIONED HE DOES NOT HAVE TO GET IT INSPECTED. WHY? dO I HAVE TO GET IT INSPECTED IN TEXAS OR DOES THE AGE OF THE CRUISER EXEMPT IT? THANKS

I have never been hassled but my 40 is not a daily driver. I drive it a lot but not daily. If you look here How the Texas Year of Manufacture Law Works - TurnerPlates.com under the section 8a it says there is a "limited amount of maintenance driving" . I probably won't drive my 40 more than 5000 miles a year so every time I do drive it, it is maintenance driving.

I am not sure of Alabama's laws but I think you guys just got YOM plates as of 2006. It is registered as a Antique (vintage) vehicle after it is 30 years old. In Texas, it is 25 years old.
I found this information here DMV, Sample and YOM License Plate Registration Information from TurnerPlates.com and here Alabama License Plates & Placards Information - DMV Guide . It appears to me like it will cost you $10 year. I am not sure if that is a lot cheaper than regular tags in Alabama or not.

It looks like the only stipulation in Alabama is " You cannot use the vehicle for commercial purposes, or for general purposes such as driving to work, school or running errands." I am not sure if that leaves you wiggle room or not.

I apologize for the thread hijack, it was not intentional.

My 40 is registered as a Antique vehicle and I supplied my own YOM (year of manufacture) plates. If you click on the first link in my last post How the Texas Year of Manufacture Law Works - TurnerPlates.com , you can read how it works. If you look closely at paragraph 8a, you will see that an inspection sticker is not required if you are an antique vehicle. If you have any more questions, pm me.

hijack over...

Kerry, you are the googling master. Thanks for the info and links...
