So I was looking around on Metal Tech's site, and I saw that they offer a heavy OME 2" suspension for the 60 series for $1312. I had been planning on ordering the Emu Dakar Ultimate Heavy Plus kit from Kurt for $1725. Kurt's kit comes with sway bar extensions and what's listed as a "hardware fitting kit" (am I correct in assuming this is the spacers needed to eliminate the rear spring isolators, along with other necessary hardware?). Aside from those it appears that the kits are identical. Is this the case? I still plan on ordering from Kurt when I do get a kit (would rather spend more to support someone dedicated to the Cruiser community, all else being equal), but this just piqued my curiosity.

Try contacting Kurt. He may be able to help you direct.

Pretty sure all OME available nowadays are the OME Dakar version springs. Basically, OME = Dakar. Lots of info on Emu's switch to the Dakar name numerous years ago, mostly going to cheaper resources and manufacturing in Malaysia(?)...or somewhere similar.

Got my OME set up 10-12+ years ago and the springs are branded with "Dakar" stickers. Just upgraded those OME front springs a couple months ago(from Kurt), they do not have "Dakar" stickers on them like my old ones but they are current OMEs, which are considered Dakar....AFAIK.

Get the full kit and don't look back. You will need the spacer washers to replace the rear fj62 isolators, but still not sure what the "fitting kit" entails.

Yep, call Kurt.

Original OME springs were made in Australia. Dakars are OME built in the orient. I've owned both. They aren't the same.
As far as I know all the springs coming into the USA are Dakar. Australian springs, like USA made spring are more expensive to make.
Changes were made in the design when the product was moved such as the sleeved eyelets. If Australia is still making OMEs they
probably stay in their domestic market. Production costs would be too high when considering you would have to add export
costs and warehousing in countries you service.

So from what I'm hearing the true OME is actually better quality than the EMU Dakar? @cruiseroutfit what's your take?

I got the MAF/OME Heavy 4" lift with spring reversal maybe 15 yrs ago & it is by far the best mod I've made on this rig and that's a lot. I don't know about the 2" lift but at the time my swaybar extensions were a piece of all thread and they broke frequently until I had a fab shop turn some out of chromemoly and problem solved- never looked back. No offense to Kurt and I'm not sure who he is but MAF has never let me down. I The springs all had the Dakar stickers on them and I will say that heavy means just that. Be prepared to look like a jacked up hot rod in the back unless you have all that heavy equipment in the back to appropriate it. If or when you do you will be glad with your choice, I was.

I've never bought anything from either MAF or Metal Tech. Bet they're both good companies.

When you buy a suspension product from Kurt Williams you get everything you need to do the install on the first shipment. The company sells a LOT of suspensions and they know what you're going to need to get the job done. Initial price might seem higher but you get everything that's needed.

And that's all I got to say about that......

Like I said, not sure who Metal Tech is. I have been out of the scene for sometime.... you know that four letter word many of us hate.... WORK! lol- I am back now and trying to get caught up. This website is an incredible resource as so many of the subscribers on here are as well. I feel truly blessed and God Bless America! Thanks to everyone that shares their experiences and knowledge!!!

Then you might be shocked to hear maf is no more.
They cashed out.
The name is still but it's a different outfit running it.

But the legend lives Brian. The Moto X Fox I grew up with racing motocross has also changed over to Fox Shox but still prosper in the off road sports world. The same kit I own is still available from MAF for the same price which amazes me. Not sure what you mean they are no more... I called them last week for some advice and the were happy to lend it. I will be ordering replacement bushings from them here shortly after hunting season ends while my elk is hanging. lol

2nd (or maybe 3rd) going with Kurt. He will talk you through everything you need to know and will get you the kit that's gets you the results you are after. I have no experience with MAF but I have no reason to go anywhere else. Kurt got me going perfectly so he has a customer for as long as he is in business. I wouldn't fool around with it. Just call Kurt (or any of the other good folks) at Cruiser Outfitters and I am sure they can walk you through the differences. HTH.
