Back in my beginning days with the 3FE one of the first things I needed was a new exhaust system & the local speed shop removed the Cats & created a dual system which turned out ridiculously loud. His solution was to install cherry bombs in front...

yes, I have a fuel tank I will be dropping soon

This is all great info! This project sounds like it would be easiest to have the air cleaner assembly removed during this entire project including checking & setting the timing? I noticed that assembly has more than just an air filter in it & not...

You can also take the distributor cap off and watch for the rotor to line up with #1

You can remove spark plug number 1 and put something like a tissue over/slightly in the spark plug hole. It will blow out when the number one cylinder is coming up. Then you know you are close. I would then put a mark, maybe a silver sharpie...

Thanks for the help all. Finally found the window- it wasn't even covered. I got the idle down to 650 rpm & attacked the jumper wire but there are no timing marks in sight. I like the idea of painting the marks once Ifind them but after bumping...

Go straight back from engine identification, right below the side cover and you should find it. There might be a rubber cover there like someone had said.

Typically, you remove and plug the vacuum advance hose to the distributor when setting the timing. The only thing harder that finding the timing marks is actually reading them with timing light. It's not easy on an 3FE, but it can be done. I...

Its there you will see a line and a circle. The window is right above the starter there is a 10mm blot head holding on the cover it prob looks like a blob of grease

I'm looking for the timing marks on my rig in the FSM with no luck, I googled it & came across more than I want to know about the 3F with no luck on the 3FE. My rig is pretty oil soaked & I saw what they look like on the flywheel but couldn'yt...

Anti sieze definately Matt!. I have been having good results with the copper based Permatex, what do you use? Also new oem gaskets for the sender, pump & drain plug as I planto flush the tank thoroughly. I opted for stainless allen socket head...

Thanks for the suggestions, finally I got it with a combination of penetrating oil, vibration, vise grips & patience! PS, I hate easy outs- very rarely have they ever worked for me on a small machine screw. Happy Wheeling!!!

Much to my disappointment I dropped the fuel tank in my parts rig & soaked the sender & fuel pump screws overnight before attempting to remove them. With a little coaxing they all came out ok except one for the pump broke about 1/8 of an inch...

I drove the cruiser today, so far so good. It ran well this morning, but seemed to run even better after driving around for a while doing errands in it this afternoon. Seems like replacing the FPR did the trick. Hopefully it works for you and...

Thanks, I got my cold start temp sensor from them & saved buco bucks. Of course I had the change the connector since the 1988's are not available anywhere I could find. I used Parts Geek for my FPR (Delphi) & they list the Denso Fuel pump with...

I have been exploring this idea for a long time for my ever thirsty 3FE/A440. I am potentially looking at having to replace the fuel pump & drop the tank so was hoping for some feedback from fellow Mudder's pros & cons. It looks highly...

Just waiting on the part now, time will tell. I checked with the dealer on availability of the fuel pump should it come down to that and wasn't delighted to here they are in the $500 range and there are two for the 1988.... a Denso or an Asin...

okay a little update: I started the truck and let it idle/ warm up for about 20 min. It ran well with no stalling or bogging, so hopefully the FPR did the trick! Just a little note; the regulator I ordered came with a slightly too large o-ring...
    • offroadin4fun
Yeah, I agree on the regulator. I have one coming this week. I would expect if it were something that simple the dealer would of found it $2,000 dollars ago. I will let you know. I did the Spector upholstrey kit years ago & was really happy with...

I have a drawer system in the cargo area complicating getting to the trap door to check the voltage at the fuel pump so might as well just drop the tank if it comes to that It's pretty busy under the passenger side kick panel & I'm not sore which...
    • offroadin4fun
Yes, new fuel pump & the tank was re-lined maybe 10k miles ago. Problem with checking the voltage through the cargo area trap door is I installed a drawer system so might as well just drop the tank, I often wonder if perhaps the relining process...
    • offroadin4fun
Thanks for the reply Nick, I did replace the fuel pump & had the tank relined probably ten years ago. That fuel pressure gauge is trying to tell me something. When I replaced the fuel pump back then I didn't have a drawer unit in the cargo area...

I have been battling this bug for a couple of years now & after spending a couple grand at the local Toyota dealer with no answers I am having a go at it myself. I have replaced the Cold Start Temp Sensor & thoroughly cleaned the cold start...

One of many reasons I carry a Halon 1211 bottle in my 62 on a mount from @NLXTACY (gotta promote good products). @Michael Hanson if the gauge is filled with glycol like a lot of our flightline equipment gauges were when I was active, freezing...
    • offroadin4fun
Very cool, I have the same fire extinguisher mount under my passenger seat. I did the research on glycerin filled gauges. It says if mixed with liquid down to -40. It also said straight glycerin has a much higher freezing temp was kinda...
