Cable that runs under the dash, just to the left of the vent. You can barely see it on the SOR picture below....

The kids came out to help....

Loved working with my kids this weekend. Anna helped me put in some items including the passenger side horn, and then we added the weatherproof electrical fittings, and she even helped me solder in a union and shrink wrap the connections.

My buddy helped with the interior knobs, pedals and the drivers side horn. Then we started working on the seats.....

brakes

tornado alley cruiser was nice enough to share some parts with me. If you are a follower of my build you may recall that he convinced me (for good reason) to go with a dual brake system and front disks.... well he came through and supplied me with the brake adapter from Mark's offroad to do this..... I sandblasted the adapter and powdercoated it, and sandblasted the booster and painted it up nice..

The middle picture is the steering wheel that had some major cracks in it. Tornadoalleycruiser told me about some filler to add, and after a few mud searches, I found a post by our Ed (best bbq man in the state) and he used JB Weld. So, this is with the first coat. I will let it dry and shrink for a week and add the second coat. Now I need to find a paint that will work on steering wheels that have some flex. I heard that eastwood has something.

Ok, for the frustration.... I was working on the gas tank this weekend, prepping it to clean up, and I pulled out the 5 screws that hold in the sending unit, and then took of the adapter brass on the side that takes it from the 1/2 pipe thread down to fit a 1/4 hose. I put these items in a small bag and the Da&* bag disappeared. I spent a good two hours looking for it!!!!! I went to church and prayed... NO GOOD. I took to drinking... NO GOOD. Looking for other ideas.....????

I'm almost embarrased that booster etc i gave you was so dirty. I was popping off mud dauber nest off it from sitting in the barn at deer camp.

Any luck figuring out your 4wd engagement?

And Colin, Sage and I thank you for the tranny etc for the minitruck. We're all very sore and suffering from small lacerations all over our arms and hands from the installation Sat and Sun.. It moved out of my garage under it's own power about 8pm Sunday evening with a buhch of scrap steel strapped to the bed of Sage's truck to go away.
Our work however did not involve small children thou we could have used one or 2 of them to get to the top bolts on the bellhousing.

Congrats on the tranny swap!!! Seeing things move on their own is awesome!

Did not find the piece yet. Here is a picture of what I am looking for.

I need to email Mark to see if he would have one, before I waste time making one.

you just need that little clamp in the picture? can't you just use a metal clamp you would use to hold a wire in place? You have the pull cable correct? the one that engages the vacuum pod for high and low..
I'm actually missing the little flat washer on there.. BUt I think i can probably replicate it later. I took it off a long time ago to allow 2wheel low.. With the current setup if I engaged low range it automatically kicked it into 4wd. Sometimes I like 2wd low. Curious how yours works with the lever over by the drivers side. If all else fails I might have another lever like the one I posted in the picture.

I forgot to post up the picture of the 4WD vacuum switch, that may explain it. The insides are pretty cool, in the engineering of how it works. All needed is to move this cable to switch it.

Anyway, yep, all I need is that metal piece.... yes I could rig it, but at this point....... (also, I remember taking it off when I was prepping for paint, so I know it is somewhere in my garage.... likely next to that darn bag of bolts from the gas tank! ....And my 1976 Kiss alive LP.... and my 8 track of the eagles greatest hits....

Love the color of the FJ and the pics of the kids helping, 2f!! We have to work outdoors, but hoping to get my 12 and 8 year olds out helping remove carpet this weekend if the weather cooperates. Good stuff!

x2 on the kids helping..... Josh asked if he could have an FJ someday.... Talk about bringing a smile to a dad's face.

and the wife asked which one in the garage is his?

I saw on "what did you do to your landcruiser this week" thread that someone just installed a restored steering whee. So, I pm'd and pulso just showed me this thread on steering wheels.... FYI

Also, you use Krylon fusion paint for plastics!

I might have that part you are looking for, I took all that stuff out of mine, but I don't remember if I still have it or if I walked it all out to the trash. I look and see if I can find the vacuum switch. Is it attached to the switch itself or goes some place else? How soon are you needing it?

Pam

Thanks Pam, no real hurry, my work is taking me out of the shop for a while.

I will take some pics of where it mounts under the dash.

Thanks again for the gas tank. I opened it up and it looks great. I have to find that darn fitting I lost this weekend, which is really torqueing me off.
