Just picked up this 72 FJ, going thru and fixing things found the sending unit is good, gauge bad, trying to put a mechanical gauge in as a temporary fix, anyone know what the thread size in the block is, ordered a connection kit for the gauge, but nothing wants to thread into the block

1/8" npt works with teflon tape.

Edit: I have it wrong... go with recommendations below.

Might as well find an
adapter with the correct BSPT threads. Two types of British Standard Pipe fittings exists. BSPP (Parrallel thread) and BSPT (Tapered thread). If you see a fitting for sale listed as just BSP, chances are it may be the incorrect parallel thread.

Rock40 posted up a 1/8 BSPT to -4AN adapter part number.
Yeah, they are 1/8 BSPT to 4AN. Not a Toyota part and never was. McMaster-Carr part number: 4545K162

The fittings can be frustrating to find, they do exist though.

I was able to find suitable adapters, tees, and plugs on Amazon and eBay.

Yes, it's most certainly BSPT into the side of the block and an NPT fitting will NOT work. If you need me to, I can source the part number for a male BSPT to female NPT 1/8" fitting. I have several of them in my fitting drawer. It'll screw right into the side of the block and you can mount your gauge directly to it.

If your NPT gauge is 1/8 male NPT, then this is what you need (from EBay):

1/8-27 NPT Female to 1/8 28 BSPT BSP Male Gauge Sensor Sender Adapter Reducer

You can make a 1/8" NPT fitting work, but you're boggering threads together. It's a compression fit to begin with but...
