Since I bought my 62 the oil gauge has not worked and I was looking today under the truck and there are no wires going to the sending unit.

I can see where the female spade is still on the end of the unit but no wires are hanging in sight?

I have looked in the FSM to see where the wires should be coming from but I am having no luck.

I am sure that it is in a wire loom somewhere in the engine bay but some help would be thanked.

Thanks,

I found a yellow wire with a black stripe that someone had wound together to get out of the way. It reaches the unit but don't know if it is the wire for the unit.

Also where was the sending unit grounded too body or wire loom?

I could be wrong about this, but from what I remember, the sending unit is grounded at the engine block. That's why when you screw it in, you don't use any Teflon tape or anything, cause that messes with the ground.

The sending unit on my 60 only has one wire attached to it, and it's attached to the round plug on top, not to the spade on the side. Don't connect it to the spade, or it will fry your dash gauge. I assume this is the same for a 62.

I replaced my sending unit because my pressure was pegged at the high mark all the time. When I hooked the new one up, the gauge dropped all the way to the low mark and sat there. Replaced the dash gauge with a tested used one, now it hangs around the 2/3 mark all the time, and rises slightly with acceleration.

Hope that helps for some symptoms to look for as you get it back together.

I connected the yellow wire and nothing happened.

I know that you can check the gauge by hooking up a ground wire by where should I do that on the gauge itself or sending unit?

Pic that might help. Yes, I know your sender is under the filter instead of on the cooler, but the hookup is the same. Wire is Yellow-black stripe.

Thanks pappy. So it looks like I have the correct wire. Now I need to test the gauge to find out which one is the issue.

Gauge or Sending unit.
