Been chasing a coolant system issue and replaced the cap on the radiator and also found the overflow tube was partially blocked yesterday.

Ibspect it today and there are little.black spec in the coolant and the overflow was sliced with oil. Smelled like nasty oil not really exhaust. Also there was not much air in my coolant system, so I am pretty sure its not the head gasket.

I had a timing seal and valley plate done in March for a big chunk of change. Really hoping its the timing cover. Will call my service advisor tomorrow.

Had an existential crisis.

GX is scheduled with Lexus tomorrow. A hail Mary warranty please.

Tomorrow evening we are going to buy a s***-box for me to commute with. Preferably stick shift.

That sounds rather bleak. Not something you want to see.
Are you blowing any white smoke out of your tail pipe?

No. And I just got it sucking coolant out of the reservoir.

Really hoping that the water wetter i put in is gunking and I am not looking at a new engine.

In case I am looking at a new enginer we are going to by beater car.

If you need another engine, low mileage ones come here from Japan for pretty cheap:

Bummer dude. Do a compression test? Hopefully it isn't a head gasket :(

I put in water wetter when I was troubleshooting the radiator cap. That might be the culprit. Fingers crossed

Canceled appointment with lexus, going to do a coolant dump this weekend and try to buy a beater tomorrow.

Its draining right now. I cleaned out the sludge, it may have come from the hoses.

I am not going to do a full flush, I am going to dump the radiator to dilute it, and see how it looks.

Black chunks came out of my cooling system, otherwise the antifreeze was clear.
Bled it and going to check it in a few hours to see what it looks like. I have enough coolant to do 2 more drain and fills, if I need to.

Back in the day when I was younger(no kids) and had my track prepped ITR, I would use water wetter but only with distilled water. Can you add it to coolant/antifreeze?

When was the last time you did a drain on the coolant? Wonder what the black chunks could be?

Less than 10k miles. Its from the hoses.

I have in the past with success. Vut the sludge issue appears to be common after searching for it, unfortunately.

No but I do know the cause abd it appears to be gunk free but going to do another drain and fill this weekend, just to be safe.
