Oil filter cap sneak peak

Converting over to Brian's oil filter house cap. I removed the filter support tube from the OEM cap, yielding the tube with ears bent upwards, the tensioning spring and the disk shaped piece that the spring sits on in the OEM cap. What is the purpose of the disk in Brian's cap? To support the spring?

Just finished changing my oil again with the OEM filter cap. I've done it numerous times so I have become somewhat proficient at it but it is still a pain in the rear. I've been following this thread since it started. Now that bjowett's cap has been out long enough for most folks to have driven some real miles and performed at least one oil change, what's the verdict? It looks like a well engineered and thought out product but I wanted to wait to get real-world feedback before I installed such a critical component. Thx!

I installed my oil cap from @bjowett about 3 months ago, and with full synthetic oil (Mobil 1 0W-20), I won't be changing my oil for several more months. But, I did have the fumoto on my oil pan before installing this oil cap, and I can already tell that the next oil change (with two fumoto's now) will be a breeze. I have visually inspected the oil cap and there are no leaks, and the oil level has remained steady. I'll probably sneak in the oil change before the Breck trip this summer and will be able to comment on it in more detail then. With a couple of drain hoses, I might actually have a pristine oil change without spilling a single drop for a change!

Thank you Brian for a great product!! Did the install yesterday with Toyota synthetic and TRD filter. This thread was a great reference since I didn't know what to do with the small disk.

Wanted to thank Brian again for a great product with the oil filter cap replacement. Makes oil changes super easy. Have a fumoto on both the oil pan as well as the option on the oil filter cap - it couldn't be simpler. Even accounting for the ARB skids and bumper's splash guard having to be removed (most time consuming part), I was in & out in less than 1 hr. That includes oil & filter change, storage of old oil for disposal, and I was able to wash the underside of the skids while I waited for the oil to drain. Easy like Sunday morning...

I too am excited about installing the Jowett cap. It's a significant upgrade to the existing OEM system. It won't be long and I will be doing my first oil change and the initial install. To that end I have been assembling the needed components. The biggest issue I have had was finding 2.5" socket. I have been looking for the deep wheel nut socket some have described, however none of the 2.5" sockets would fit. The tolerances on the cap are exact, but the formed sockets I found at the various auto parts stores don't fit. I finally bought one at NAPA and need to put it on the milling machine to clean up the shoulders to fit. It's not an issue, but I am wondering where others might have found one to fit. I considered going to a 2 9/16" size but wasn't happy with the sloppy fit. I guess it's a moot point because I already bought it but I am curious.

I bought the socket from Brian when I bought the Oil Filter Cap. I suggest others do the same.

Same here, had no fitment issues either.

I can produce one for you, the differences are minor. If you are interested, a cap that allows you to run the larger filer from the 5.7l engine can be machined... we just need to make sure there is clearance for it with the wrench. I have a GX460 oil filter bracket here.... could you take some measurements?

Would this work on a GX 460 ?? TY

Yes I can take any measurements you need. Just tell me what exactly you need. I looked at the oil filter between the 4.6 and 5.7. Same diameter different length.the filter for 5.7 is about 1" longer. If possible I would like to increase the size of the filter I don't know if the two cups are of the same diameter but different length. Please let me know what you need Thank you for trying.

We can make a longer cup to accommodate the extra filter length.... this is how Toyota fit the larger V8 filter to the Lexus IS-F, which has a similar filter mount to the GX 460. I need know to how much room there is horizontally from the end of the cap to the nearest obstruction that will prevent cap removal or the socket from being utilized.

BTW, the bracket can also be modified to add an oil cooler.

This picture shows the IS-F cap on a 2010+ roller cam 4.0L V6 filter mount. I ran this on my wife's FJ Cruiser. The GX 460 mount has the boss cast in for the oil cooler, but Toyota does not machine it for the oil cooler to work.

There is a plastic bracket that holds a wires harness but I can take care of that by installing another L bracket and push it away. Then i have like 6".
In my case I already installed a B&M oil cooler with a fan and thermostat in line with the oem.

I am ok with whatever you suggest. I can test and se what it fits then send you back the rest. You want pics of the oil cooler or the filter location ??
