I have a 1983 BJ40 B engine cruiser. It has an oil bath air cleaner system. I would like to change this to a paper element filter. Does anyone have guidance on the interchangeability of this? Can I simply clean out the oil bath and pop an paper element in?

No.. you'll need an airbox from a later model vehicle that has a paper filter and you'll need to sort out a mounting bracket and a hose to your throttle body.. any thing from a 40 series diesel could be made to work - HJ45, HJ47, BJ42 etc.

Thank you!

Is there an established benefit to paper filter?
I'm running the oil bath in my H, and seems to work OK, and no disposable element.

Paper in my mind is newer tech so it’s natural to try this as a means to better filter the air. Cleaner too!

Not cleaner for the environment though I was thinking..
Its survived in Africa for 45 years so I guess the ship has sailed for me
