okay last post then i'm done for the night. as i mentioned. my passengers took far more pics than me and i won't have them for a few days.

Led Kane Creek on Saturday which turned out to be quite interesting. luckily everyone in the group was a decent driver and not too high strung. got to spot my first FJ. Guy named Meryl from Fruita, CO. He and it handled the trail just fine. Aside from a broken sway bar bracket on an 80 the run went very smooth until just before the shelf road. As we rounded the last bend I saw a line up of 10 Pinzgauers (sp?), and 5 rental jeeps parked. An ATV rider had fallen at the top of the shelf road climb and needed to be airlifted out.

EMTs decided to let us all go by so they could lower the victim down to where the chopper was going to land. so the Pinz and jeeps climbed the ledges and passed the victim. About half of our group had made the climb up to just below the victim when the helicopter began circling the canyon rim. After some conversation with the S&R lead we waited for the chopper to land then all slowly climbed the road and passed the victim. What should have taken only about 30mins took us almost 90. Our group handled themselves very well and considerately. After crossing the stream one last time we took a bit to get up the last set of ledges. Easy going from there on out.

Gunned Steel Bender on Friday. not sure why but i decided to balance and one foot and look like a total tard spotting eric down the huge ledge on Steel Bender. I guess that's what I bring to the table. :whoops:

who cares what you look like, your spotting is excellent

BTW, here are pis of your own line on that obstacle ;p

Notice how the good idea of driving right over the major rocks turns into a snag when the rock moves

thanks for chosing the pics of looking even more like a fool. funny thing about it is that is the line I always take and apparently it doesn't like me anymore.

have your arms recovered from 3 days of wheeling yet? I'm still very impressed how easily you handled your 40 without powersteering. i should have taken a few notes for the people in my club still running without it.

as you can infer, the truck and I made it back to Arizona without problems
Thanks to Kevin (Tools R Us) and Rob (both in 80s) for letting me caravan back with them. I tried my best not to hold them up , and the cruiser did 75 most of the time on the flat, with one time hitting 90

Amazing, one day grinding up mirror gulch in 4lo both ends locked, the next day racing with the pickpus on I-17; I love my cruiser


Bottom Line:

breakage on the trails - negligible ;p (two wires cut cleanly by the bumper snapping against the body on Golden Spike)

gas cost for the whole trip - why even ask

wheeling with friends in Moab - priceless

Thanks, but really, no problem with the manual steering as long as the truck is moving some, I never got sore. I was glad, I got lowered down the big drop on Steelbender though, because indeed, that is a situation I might not be able to handle manually. That canyon was deep AND close !

Like my passenger Pete from KY (on Golden Spike) said - "I thought needed powersteering, but now I won't do it before you do". The good thing is, I think I would not break a Birf as long as I have manual steering; there is so much feedback to tell me I have to find a different option

I want to get better at finessing the hand throttle, though......

quite so. walk inside for 2mins. walk out with $200 worth of ARB recovery gear. i'll take that anyday. i did manage to buy a TLCA shirt from Eric while I was there also.

I am starting to have a 'mixed' relationship with another trail myself - Metal Masher is becoming a Softtop Masher for me: at Easter Jeep Safari last year, I acquired a rip in the top, and this time, a zipper ripped out of the thread. Luckily, the CruiseMoab paperwork that we carried in the trucks came with staples, the perfect tool to keep the re-zipped portion fixed in place

Here we are trying Widow Maker on Metal Masher Saturday. This obstacle has become almost impossible. The Well's book says it's a 3 1/2 foot ledge. It's probably 6 1/2 feet now, because so much sand has been dug out at the bottom. No-one made it and they all went around on the bypass.

the funny thing is - do you notice on the pictures how I am trying to counteract the lean of the truck? As a matter of physics, this is totally useless, the truck is tilting no matter what I do inside , but somehow, the reflex is still there..........

First a ledge before Rock Chucker Hill, then fast-forward to Mirror Gulch.

Sorry, no pics from Rock Chucker (Michael and myself were looking over the front end of my 40 after a single loud 'clang' sound; no further untoward noises thereafter, everything appeared to work fine). Kudos to the two 80s (Eric and ?? - I'm bad with names, sorry) for making a difficult obstacle real easy

Excelent ride-a bit disapointed about Widowmaker, my avatar is it was last year-a bit less "dug." Notice no large rock on the pssngr side? Though, I think Eric and I utilized our rear-end loaders well there

The VlakVark made it's first trip with no breakage. Probably because the driver was very mellow this year.

All the pictures from Fin's and Things, Behind the rocks, and the Homegrown team in Area BFE.

Thanks to Rising Sun and especially the CM Comittee. I think the event has grown and lot and the management of the event was excellent. Being a trail leader and issued a Satelite Phone was probably a first on any organized TLCA events and much appreciated. It makes the worries of the unforseen in the back country a lot less.

Had a great run with a great group including many of the Norcal guys. Looking forward to hanging on the beach at S&T.
