1996 Toyota Land Cruiser
196K miles!! Hard to find one under 200K!
Great condition with FRONT AND REAR LOCKERS.
Engine runs great and has been used for the highway.
Leather is in good condition but has signs of wear, I mean this is a 20 year old car. So it is in great condition still.
No rust at all.
Cons:
Does need fenders painted, but that is all the work it needs.

Deal here is that Sams will only mount and balance that tire for me on the LC if it rolls in in them.
I want the warranty and such Sams offers on a new set of KO2s.
So I figured I would ask if anyone was going to throw away a set of 285s that were worn completely out please PM me as I may come and get them.

I road in jerrys yellow cruiser once at URE with Greg. It was crazy how comfortable it was while navigating the back side of Daniel...trails were very wet. I was super impressed. Tried to get the wife to buy one but they are a bitch to see out of driving and she wasn't comfortable.
I have gotten around this in the past by just bringing in wheels and had them mounted/balanced and then brought them back home and mounted. From that point on, I just drove them in.
At Costco, I bought the tires online and then took the car in and they didn't say anything, but that was really only 0.5" taller than stock.

One comment on the popularity of the jeep. Chrysler was smart for getting the folks who bought leased minivans when they had kids, then transitioned them toward jeeps, so they could be adventure families.....oh, dont worry about the price, just worry about the payment. Look at all the neat accessories we can put on it for you. Just imagine you and your family driving out on the outer banks, sun on your skin, your perfect blonde hair blowing in the breeze. in your white shorts and blue denim shirts......and people ate that crap up.
I think Toyota would put a dent in Jeep sales only if it came in at a much lower price point than a similarly equipped Jeep. Because it would take a few years to get a bunch of aftermarket goodies built. Look at the 120 series platform. Most of the suspension parts are interchangeable between fjc, 4r, and prado/gx. thats where the similarities end, and it has to be custom from there out. Its just more cost effective to build for the bazillion of credit card happy jeepers.
Yeah, we all say, oh man,if toyota made (insert vehicle here) id buy that in a heartbeat, but realistically, if youre gonna drop 45k+ on a new 4wd topless vehicle, are you gonna run right out and start taking it over big rock ledges and the stuff youre taking your current ride over? Or are you going to just drive it to the grocery store and get mocked, just like most of the jeep owners? Assuming Id be able to buy one, Mine would see the beach, some forest service roads, etc.

I bought my 07 FJC new in 12/06 for $27,700.00. Built a front bumper, built sliders, 3" lift, Bud builts front to back and later a rear bumper. Beat the snot out of that truck with a smile on my face from day one.
I believe if Toyota made something like that 40 on the 120 platform people would be lining up. Because it is not us Cruiser Heads that are buying the high dollar resto mods. It's people of means that can afford them that want to drive it whenever they want, where ever they want. Like a real car or truck. I bet 80% or more current Jeep buyers don't give a rat's a** if it has a solid front axle.

I agree Stan. But you were ahead of the curve, because of your fab skills, and willingness to bang it around.
I bought my 86 4r sr5 in 89 for 10,600, slapped a 2 inch block under the rear, cranked the torsion bars a bit, and ran 32 inch bfgs. Ran all over fl in it. Had a family friend fab up a stainless dual tube rear bumper, top tube held air, bottom tube held water, each was about 10 gals of capacity. Lived in it for almost 3 weeks down near Homestead after Andrew, went thru 6 tires on that trip alone (anything that wasnt leaking air was left in the tires).
I love my 120 series, Its about 15/16'ths the size of my 80. but much more legroom, headroom, etc. My 80 will eventually be our off pavement adventure vehicle, but only have to seat two, sleep two, and not have to go anywhere fast. The gx470 specific manufacturers are increasing, and @DanKunz has shown how capable the platform can be, even in the pink pantalone flavor.
I think I'd salivate more if Toyota imported the 4 door Utes or an extracab ute. One of those with a Innovan on the back, and Id be a happy camper.

There is so much wrong about these 2 theories.
First off, define failure? Toyota didn't seem to have much trouble selling the FJC so it wasn't a sales failure; as others have said, the 120 platform has been a global success and is heavily used; I suspect you have a very narrow definition of success (e.g. "What I would do if I ran a car mfgr"). Lastly, Toyota committed significant resources and money to the entire FJC experience, which was good for all of us.

Now, to commit blasphemy and piss on orthodoxy....
There was this concept called the Civilian Jeep. Post WWII, due to the reputation of the vehicle established during the way these were sold to the public. Why is this important?
- Toyota, Mitsubishi, Rover, and others copied it. Yes, the dearly beloved 25 and 40 and all successive models were copied off the CJ.
- The CJ started the recreational offroad hobby/passion/lifestyle in the US.
- The ongoing popularity of recreational offroad has brought immense innovation to all of us, provided untold thousands of jobs.
- Like it or not, this single vehicle is why we are all here.
I also applaud FCA's Jeep brand for developing a business model based off a niche vehicle that has persisted for 80+ years now.
I hope more auto industry executives pay attention to the ongoing success of Jeep and try to compete with them. Ford will allegedly bring back a solid-axle Bronco - will anyone else step up? (Sideline: Choice is good for all of us.)
The current Wrangler is the most capable stock 4WD sold in the United States. (Are we all envious of the Rubicon and the vast aftermarket?)
