Went to two dealers today. Saw the yellow, silver, and blue. All nice.
Wife and son had nixed yellow in advance, but softened on seeing it. Liked the silver, but less so after a viewing.
Drove a blue one on I 95 in New England. Humorous, because it was like driving a police car.........no one wanted to pass. Clearly they wanted a full look at what they had never seen before. These cars will stand out for a while.
Dealers in CT/NY (my sample of two) area had a 3500/4500 market value premium. Don't think this will hold. I offered sticker for the blue one, but they don't know what they can get yet, so they didn't deal...and neither did I.
I don't think premiums will hold for a variety of reasons. [this is not a wife- friendly vehicle, generally speaking.] Another of which is that I started thinking of how a 4Runner would fill the bill for what we are looking for from this car. The country is still awash in 4runners and except for the purist, I'd like to hear a good marketing analysis of why people will pay 31K+ for a loaded FJ when a decently equiped 4runner is in that same range. I think the selling prices on these have to settle out at 28.5-29K to have it ultimately make sense. Certainly not in the mid 30's where they are if you actually contemplate paying the premium.
